well....... on tuesday night i swapped my carbon can co end can for a renegade race can, didn't like it, caused too many flat spots so swapped it back, yesterday i changed the reg/rec and the only other thing i did was block the holes up on the airbox where the bungs should be. its run crap since.it was low on fuel soo maybe some crap has blocked a jet up somewhere, i've filled the tank and its still running crap.think i'll uncover the holes to see what happens.

well i've put the old reg/rect back on and stuck a shot of redex in the tank. I'll see how she goes on the way to work tonight and let you know tomorrow. To be honest though i'm not getting my hopes up. I can feel a complete carb strip down coming up

i don't ever have to usse choke to start the bike, it'll start fine then it will say running if i turn up the idle a little bit. Me thinks it might be too rich!!

thats what i'm thinking with mine as its been running crap since i covered the airbox holes so thinking the filters clogged and it needs extra air.

well i didn't think that would work

no difference what so ever, apart from draining the battery. Think i'll stick the other one back on and look at the fuelling again.
What else could it be?
1. Blown HG again? (don't think it would be great above 4k revs though if this was the case)
2. Blowing exhaust gaskets? (though i'd have thought i would be able to hear that)
3. timing off? (same as 1. really)
4. or something to do with the inlet side? i.e. fuelling too rich
Also, does anyone know what size the spark plugs are (for colourtune and compression tester purposes) 10mm, 12mm or 14mm? I think its 10mm but just wanted to check.

try it with the choke on a bit, if its better it was too lean and if worse too rich. (put choke on till its idling at ~2krpm, then drop the idle back with the idle adjuster)
similarly, try it without the air filter. (it'll almost definitely bog at the top, but pay attention to how it reacts where it was bad before*)
weirdy midrange isues are often float heights. especially around area's in the rev range where the carbs are transitioning from one circuit to another (pilot to needle, needle to main jet)

have you checked to see if your sucking air around the inlet rubbers? I've had a couple of bikes that had shitty fuelling at low revs and it was both down to sucking air through old inlet rubbers.

xphy do you mean the rubbers between the head and carbs or between the carbs and airbox?

the ones between the head and carbs
