Hi,
It could be the coil that fires 2&3? Also you may wanna check that all mixture screws on the carbs are turnt exactly the same on all 4 carbs. As others have said, if it sounds like 3 cylinders it could be a leak on the HT caps. I had this problem 1 morning before going to work. The bike fired up on 3 cylinders, got down the road and it went from bad to worse... the bike then decided to only run on 2 cylinders. I nursed the bike home only to find that the coil controling cylinders 1&4 had fried. A new coil fixed the problem and I was off again.
1 last thing you could check, air leaking at the manifold.
Regards
Rich

i checked the mixtures last week as the 2nd plug was wet and blacker than the others, took the carbs off and the 2nd mixture screw was completely different to the rest so set them the same, made a bit of difference response wise but stilll running lumpy.

next job is replacing the leads completely

have checked for leaks and rectified when i put the carbs back on.
thanks for the suggestions tho, hopefully the leads will sort it, if not then strip the float bowls off all carbs then change the coils.

stripped the no2 carb this weekend and one of the jets was blocked completely, so have give it a good clean out, loads better but still not 100% but i guess the wet plug aint gonna help, gonnat whip that out and clean it and swap the coils over next to see what happens.

Hi,
Did you check and clean the rest of the jets while you had the carbs off? You might aswell strip the whole the lot and blast it through with carb cleaner.

i only checked no2 carb which is running rich but if the swapping of coils dont work then yes i will strip the lot, never been a massive fan of messing with carbs but after the weekend feeling pretty confident now.

carbs are easy baz, as long as you dont start bending the floats about. Take your time its as easy as disassemble, clean, reassemble.

thats because they were shite carbs. even ford admit they never really worked properly and most cars ended up using weber's!!

swapped the HT leads and also swapped the junction box as it got a bit damp but still the same so tonight i'm gonna swap the coil & see what happens.

mmmmmmmm swapped the coil over last night and bugger me what a difference, i'm just waiting for the plug to fowl up and stop firing now.took it out for a good long blast last night and ran beautiful, a couple of flat spots but think i'll see how it goes, run some REDEX through it and maybe strip and clean the carbs completely. fingers crossed its sorted!!

well it wasn't but it is now, stripped the carbs down yet again, removed and checked all the jets and squirted carb cleaner down every orifice (including the carbs

) checked all mixture settings and no2 was still half a turn out so set them all the same, changed the air filter, and on sunday took it out for a good blast, must have blown some cobwebs out of it, it runs as good as it ever has now and sounds a beaut!!!
