yeh, suits it, i'd thought of doing it before but couldnt quite vsialise how it'd work with the shape of the ZX-4.. but it works, its like KR1-S' big brother .. which ... it was

That colour scheme is great !! ,, got the new exhaust fitted , !! but now i have an annoying stutter between 0 and 6k rpm , have just given the bike a full service ,,, but expect im going to have to remove the carbs and see what they are like !!! :smt013

If you haven't jetted the carb's for the new pipe try turning your air mixture screws in a quarter turn to richen it up and start raising the the needles a notch to see if that helps.
Ideally you want to install a Dyno kit - most say you then need it Dyno'd to check the air/fuel mixture but if you follow the installation instructions there really is no need - DynoJet has already done that work ! Just an easy way for the Dyno folks to make a few quid.....
How's it sound - did you bin the db killer - if so then definitely richen the mixture as it will be too lean.
How's does it look - where are the pics

one of yours was it Drew ?
was assuming he'd fitted an L exhaust, they dont need any messing with the carbs to run sweet..
if its an after market one, then yeh, it probably will... and a zxr400-H airbox front will help smooth things out a bit too.. certainly did on ours.
with all that in mind, i'd lower the fuel level (increase float heigh as measured) to lean it out a bit at the bottom, ideally i guess you'd drop the needles, but as they arent adjustable its not an option, and a 1mm tweak of the float heights worked well enough on ours.
there's no dynojet kit for the ZX-4 or the zxr400-H, the one for the L makes things worse..
if you can be bothered though, getting 32mm carbs off a zxr400H should perk it up everywhere. If you intend doing this, do it now, rather than waste time tweaking the OE 30mm carbs just to take them off and start again.

You can look through this lot for parts still available for it.
Bito R&D make specific 32mm FCR's for it

interesting how they have different kits for the H1 and H2, and then 2 different kits for the L's ..
000213-0062 ZXR400-H1 89 ZX400H-000001 〜006000 \25,200
000213-0072 ZXR400-H2 90 ZX400H-006001〜 \25,200
000213-0082 ZXR400-L1,L2 91-92 ZX400L-000001〜 \25,200
000213-0092 ZXR400-L3,L4,L4A,L5,L9 93-99 ZX400L-020001〜 \25,200
here, dynojet made 1 kit for all the L models, and that was it.
wonder what the differences between them are ..

The bike did it before i fitted the new exhaust ,, although i know the owner before had stripped down the carbs and cleaned them ,,??! When refitting the ht leads I noticed that 2 of them sit higher than the others like they werent clipping onto the plugs properly but no matter what i do they wont sit down properly maybe thats the cause ,, or like zim said it may be the metal rocker cover causing an arch ? will have to take the top off and ave a look ... ,, Got some pic comming of the new pipes on there shortly !! ,, thinking of changing the calipers and discs etc to a later model as the standards are a bit wimpy also how hard is it to stick a later rear end on one ? any thoughts

Looking good
Keep an eye open for cheap GPz600R clocks on fleabay that will get you MPH - also look for smashed sets and just swap out the internals.
GPz 550 clock internals should also fit along with 750's.
Be better looking than that overlay
Keep the good work up,
MM!
PS. Indy's are cruise lights and that's common on Jap spec' bikes so it's a grey import.
