Not because of people asking plain and basic questions again and again, but in fact, because of the way senior members on here seem to have developed a habit of jumping down the throats of anyone they deem to be asking anything foolish or simple.

If you don't know anything about bikes but want to learn, and don't understand enough to realise that the idea you've had is something foolish; and don't ask someone who will tell you 'f**k no, don't do that', you may go ahead and do that something foolish - or even something downright dangerous. And the response here seems to be simple condescension and put downs. I don't recall it being like that when I joined and found it to be an excellent forum full of helpful people and excellent responses to my questions when I joined, a lot of which were considerably foolish and stupid, compared to what I know now.

On that point I'm not talking specifics regarding the latest spammer, I'm simply making an observation on the attitude on this forum.

Is it just me that's noticing there's this definitely arrogant accent to this forum of late?

It's goddamn off putting and is making me for one uncomfortable as a returning member who actually already knows a lot of the nametags on here, so how can it possibly feel better for someone joining the forum to see this crap?
And if you get tired of answering the same questions over and over again, stop bloody answering them, don't sit and knock on about people who ask questions being morons.

Even if there is an element of resentment to newbies asking foolish or stupid questions, it's embarrassing to come on here and find threads like this one, making the forum look damned unprofessional, uncaring and condescending, with no element of wanting to help people or encourage forum growth and respectability.

I have a few friends with ZXR400 and each and every one of them have at some point mentioned that they never even bother coming on here.
Just how, if you ever read posts on other Forums, such as Bike Chat etc. then people there are even commenting on how they don't dare come on here.

And the exact reason, every single time is that the attitude on here is that the members on here, although very knowledgeable, don't seem to want to help at all.

I run a forum myself. I understand what it is like to get repeated questions, or some that seem silly. But nobody on my forum ever complains, and because of it we get a steady stream of new members all the time, and we all do out best to answer every question. Even if we have answered it before. We understand that the search bar isn't always that easy to use, as a forum like this tends to have a LOT of content to have to sift through. Also, dredging up old posts is not always a good idea...

In all fairness though, it isn't the same for all members. There are some rather friendly and helpful people on here, it's just a shame about the rest that keep me from wanting to come back here regularly. I don't even bother asking questions here anymore unless I can really help it. I ask my garage, yahoo answers, other bike forums, my cats, and THEN I come here if I really must.

Perhaps if certain so called senior members contributed a little more often then there would not be such a problem with repeated questions.


My basic premise still stands........................when I was 14 and riding a scruffy Honda C90 round and round a field with no tax no insurance and no licence.............I did manage to figure out that if I needed a part for it..............my local Honda dealer was THE place to go.

Too many on here have not copped on to the simple fact that Kawasaki deakers sell Kawasaki parts

Sometimes I feel people ask questions on here just for the sake of saying something/anything

Answers to many basic questions can be found in the manual..........................which it free and available on this very website yet people on here completely fail to use it.

How many of you have actually sat down and read the manual.............? None I prepared to guess

I will give you that much.
For parts, was a bit of a silly question.

The ONLY reason I failed to check that first, and I suspect the same reason most will, is because the bike is out of production, you don't always assume that they will still sell parts.

Generally, I go to eBay first. Especially since Cradley even lists some of their parts on there.

Regardless of what Cradley or any other Kawasaki dealer advertises on their own website or on ebay it you want a Kawasaki part they will either have it in stock or can get it.

That is actually something else I notice................no one seems able to use a phone....................and everyone assumes that if it cant be found for sale on a website then it must be either hard to get or not available. It's easier to ask on the forum and expect others to do the looking for you


BTW I am speaking generally here and NOT specficially about you or anyone else all I'm doing is trying to point out that there seems to be a trend towards being plain lazy.

If you wont help yourself why should I or any other forum member ?

4464 posts in just the ENGINE section alone.

If the site was arranged as a Wiki, which is indexed and easy to search, then fair enough.
But as a Forum, you have to go through at least 2 or 3 pages of search results, and then a further 20 pages of posts to actually find that the thread you are looking at doesn't have the answer you are looking for.

Hit the nail on the head. What amazes me is It seems some dont want to make the effort to answer it but are happy to make an effort in a non constructive way.

I really would ask people to be more considerate of the image this puts out to others as highlighted by many in this post, as said before, i like to think we have a good image and we really should work hard to make the forum a helpful and informative environment.

i would not agree with locking it. maybe apply a post limit, say min 20 posts before being able to post questions?

i dont mind collating a few common questions into a kind of FAQ...like with the workshop section, combining everyones info/experience/tips into one resource can only be a good thing.

One more thing id like to remind others of is the exclamation mark at the top right corner of users posts. If u really feel the post is inappropriate then i would encourage users to press it rather than reporting it publicly. This keeps the nasty stuff out of public view and allows us to deal with it in an appropriate and considered way. Additionally we have a proper record of who the repeat offenders are and keep tabs.

I try not to post at all now, simply because I'm scared I'll get me head bitten off. I have noone in my family who has ever owned a bike, I have a girlfriend who's dad owns them, but she lives 45 minutes away and so not exactly within reach and so anything I know about bikes I've had to look up for myself and work out. However, I only have the one road bike, at the minute, so before I do anything to the bike, I wanna know all about what I'm going to do so I don't screw up my one mode of transport, until I have enough for the 2nd road bike. That's why, with say the wheels post, if someone says modify the spacers, I want to know exactly what to do, so hound the post with questions, 'cause until recently, I never even knew how to take my wheel off, as my first experience of bikes was a pile of shite nsr125 that became a money pit. I'd love it if I could build the one-off "special" I dream of without "spamming" for advice, but unfortunately, online is the only place I can find out how to do something.
