thought so, i bought a set of alloys for a car years ago (in my boy racer days), put em on, torqued the bolts not realising they weren't sitting 100% half a mile down the road one of em fell off lol

Sorry to hear about all this mate but should wheel bolts not be retorqued after x amount of miles anyway? surely down to his own fault for not taking it to the garage when recommended to by you.

I used to process invoices for company cars after tyre changes etc, and remember there being a note on the invioces that the wheel nuts should be checked by the owner after x miles, as they sometimes need some time to bed in properly. I can't remember the number of miles, but it looked like it would cover their butt for pretty much anything like that. I don't know if this is some kind of industry standard, but I'm sure it could be argued in a court of law.

If you advised the customer to get them checked and they refused then they are fecked. Get a copy of the phone records and that will show they called in with a problem. Unless you get a lot of people calling in saying how great the work was - in which case you still come out of top!

I think that my boss thinks is that i didn't tighten them in first place, it's realy nice to know he believes me and is fighting my corner for me :wanker

Thats what I thought as well, normally garages tell you to retighten after a few hundred miles.

you should attend the disciplinary meeting, or it can be held in your absence (unless you physically can't get there - depends what the doctors note says)
Like I said before you gotta have 3 strikes and then you're out, but depend if it's gross misconduct, which this can't be because your boss is fighting your corner for you against the customer. Tribunal would look at that in your favour, even if he said it was saving face for the company, etc.

When one of our guys drove a forklift into a stack of pallets and I got a great big hole in my leg and plenty of time off work, he didn't get any disciplinary (probably cos I was off work, but the MD should have done something - I guess he was too busy phoning me everyday to see how I was doing. Didn't help.) but as soon as I was back, I just wanted an apology from him (the driver). I got nothing. I know he drives the forklift recklessly, I see it all the time and gave him warnings and re-training previously, but when the accident happeneed, I made sure he got sacked. I didn't care how good he was at other aspects of his job, I couldn't ride my bike for about 15 weeks, and I just wanted the book thrown at him. In the end I had to go through a grieviance procedure, and then got a litigation guy involved and eventually, got him sacked on capability to do his job safely.
At the end of the day I didn't sue the company, because I still wanted to work there, and they paid me full pay while I was off. It was really difficult for me at work for the following year or so cos the shop floor lads thought I was a bitch who got their mate sacked!Nothing about him being a twat and puncturing my leg!!

When you do go for your meeting, you should offer up that you may benefit from further refresher training, if only in customer service to improve your communication to customers, ie so you could have made sure he understood they would need re-torquing.

Been and spoke to my boss, the meeting has been scheduled for this monday.
Bike is being put down as a CAT B, so can't go back on the road and to top it all off, the insurance company don't let you retain salvage, so i can't even track day the bloody thing!!
Atleast everything is slowly getting sorted out, although i now have no money. My boss has decided not to pay until the disaplinary is sorted out and for some reason has only given me 2 days 2days SSP, even though i am at the end of my 3rd week??
Oh well, knee is getting better know, but cartlidge still pops out if i bend it 2 much, but atleast i'm limping as much now (was walking like a cross between John Wayne and Quozimoado b4!!)

SSP doesn't kick in until you have been sick for 7 days (including days you would not ordinrily work)
Also, are you paid a week in lieu, ie work mon to friday, paid the follwing friday after that?
Could be the reason why.

And if they wont let you "buy back" the bike, then hold out for top dollar for your pride and joy.

My brother had a R1 that was a dynomite special that got wedged into a lorry's fuel tanks, and they offered him about £2k for a 2 year old bike. He got Dynomite to do a costing spec for his bike and after 7/8 months, got £8500 for it. He had spec'd it as dynomite special on the insurance, too. (it cost him £6k though)

I get paid for the month, then work it. The company had decided earlier in the year that they won't sick pay for the first 3 days, fair enough. That covers the first week off then off (have had 2 days SSP aswell) and have a sick note that puts me off until next friday (4 weeks altogether), so was just curious as to why i haven't been already payed for the rest of the time i have had off. I'm clued up with whats legal etc and aint to bothered, just don't like being skint!!
Our company seems to have a bit of a history with didleing people aswell, but because alot people don't know, nothing ever comes of it.

As for the bike, definately gona hold out for top pay out. Even by my own admission the bike was in mint condition (and i'm very fussy!!) and very low mileage (just gone over 7k).

Go to a kwak dealer and ask them for a written valuation of your ZX636 at that age and condition, they will help you out loads if you explain crash, insurance payout and you will be looking to buy a new ninja off them with the proceeds (whether true or not)

heard off the insurance today, they are gona pay £3500, so happy with that.
Also had a phone call from my boss today to say ive lost my job, so atleast that is also over and done with now. Track bike idea has obviously gone on hold for the forseeable future which is a bit of a pisser.
I was knocked over in the workshop earlier in year (not my fault, another tech reversed into), is it worth me putting in a claim, or is it too late, seem like sour grapes etc?? Didn't claim at time as we were going through redundencies at time, so didn't want to make things worse for myself.

As for the claim, fukkit, what have you got to lose? Your job? Oh wait.

Go for it.

Most claims relate to loss of earnings from absence from work and scarring / los of use of limb. So if you had weeks off on ssp then yeah, it would be woth it, but if however you carried on at work, then no, it's not worth it.

And yeah, any claim place would say it sour grapes so you have no case.

But if it's in the acident book, might be worth looking into.

email me a copy of your dismissal letter and I'll get you a nice tribunal sorted out for you for unfair dismissal. That'll pay out nicely.
