hi i recently put new forks on a zxr 400,i used the yokes from the new forks,i just noticed they have a different offset than the stock ones,the new forks now sit 10mm closser to the tank ,in other words i will have a shorter wheel base of 10 mm,what iam trying to find out is,will this make any difference to my bikes handeling,thanks

what forks and yokes are they?
I would imagine that you may now have clearance problems with your front wheel, especially under braking

can you explain a bit more,where might i have clearence problems

If the yokes you have changed to move your forks back 10mm, presuming they keep the same rake angle, will maybee make your front tyre rub against your fairing.
Now, i have never ridden a zxr with standard fairing, but all of my zxrs have rubbed the race fairing at the front under heavy breaking.
try em and see if you have enough room, what forks/yokes are they?

im keepin that to myself till im fully finished,havent seen any zxrs with these forks!i dont think the rake can be changed,where the stem goes up through the frame ,is where the rake is set ,i think!!

This will end in tears - been there done it - but keeping the details to myself

you cant ask for advice and then hold the details! why not tell zxr500man?
I will be very surprised if what your doing has not been done before. You never know you may find the advice you need without making that big expensive mistake.

its to late to turn back,i just have one more wheel to get,forks are mounted the whole lot ,had to get some engineering work done on the yokes,my plan was to wait till its finished and up and runnin well before i unvail this masterpiece!!!

i have close to 40 new parts on this bike in total,stuff like axels ,calipers,master clynder,everything really bar frame and motor,over 2 years at it now,lost track on the money

As long as the fork length is the same as standard then the rake won't change. 10mm less offset will give you more trail, slowing down the steering, however, you will have 10mm shorter wheel base. If you raise the rear that will help get back closer to the standard trail, also increasing the rake, to try to get the steering to speed back up. As has been said, you do risk the wheel hitting the rad if you use the full suspension travel. I hope that makes sense. Good luck!
