Hi Gents,

I'm in the process of saving weight on the race bike (so I can eat more pies) and as we all know the rear disc and caliper needs some attention from the off.
Does anyone have any drawings/plans for a new caliper bracket (to sit top mounted and hold a brembo scooter or ducati rear caliper) that I could scrounge or even buy to take to a machine shop to have made? I know a lot of people have already done this so it could save me a lot of time and put a couple of quid in your race budget pocket. A pdf would be ideal.
Another point is can any of you that have done this conversion explain to me what happens about getting rid of the stay arm? Does the bracket mount to the swing arm or something?

Hi Jim, apologies mate.....I know I said I would take some piccies of my conversion but I never got round to it and then completely forgot until I read this. Sorry!

I did mine as I went along in the vice and on and off the bike so I've got no drawings as such, but I'm at Oulton on the 16/17th and then at Cadwell with DP the first weekend in May, so you're welcome to have a look then and take as many pictures and drawings/measurements as you like.

TBH, the amount of weight you save depends on the size/layout of your bracket plus the type of caliper you use, but the biggest saving (around 1.5kg) is to buy the lightweight disc from BMC Racing. The mod is a lot of work for what it is (although it does make wheel changes a toad load easier) and for £50-60 for the disc you've saved most of the weight you'd need to.

no worries mate - I totally forgot about the whole conversion thing until last week, so we can both be forgiven!

Who you at oulton with 16th/17th? Is it a race weekend or test days? Oulton is only 45 mins away from me so will have a ride up and say hello......and bring my camera if thats ok!

I know the discs are super heavy so will get onto BMC, thanks for that. If the bracket makes wheel changes easier then its got to be worth a go I reckon!

How did you go at croft? I heard the RMKD bikes went well?

£235 for the 2 days. If it is like last year, then you do quali on the Fri and race on the Sat.

Hi mate, I didn't go to Croft. I had my daughter that weekend, but March is still too early for me anyway....I'm too old to be racing at temperatures below 10C so it's only now that Easter is out the way I dare turn a wheel

The Oulton meeting is with Bemsee and is £235 for the Friday/Saturday meeting. Give it a go mate.....I only usually get the chance to do Oulton once a year so a two day meeting is a must!
