Oh it's gonna sing its little lungs out :smt007

Couldn't do any thing before I finished the 400, am gonna fire it up in a minute as I've been able to get the throttle cable attached - the previous owners have slightly broken the plate the throttle cables attach to, so I can only use the decelerator attachment slot.

Needs an airbox still so I'm still expecting it to run a bit ropey and will ha e a high idle for sure , but will be good to get some fuel through it and actually give it some throttle action - was all done on the idle adjuster before.

Fires up but won't run under 4k rpm without a lot of choke, gets better as it warms up, so I'll have to properly sonicate the carbs and the jets... Could be down to the airbox, could be the fact it's not been reved in over 14 years :excited

When I first fired it upast year it was just a test to make sure that it did fire, so it ran for about a second... This was several minutes of decent revs, got the temp gauge almost half way, coolant is pumping fine with no leaks, a few oil leaks but will sort them in time. Alternator and reg rec seem fine, no electrical gremlins so far so can't complain :smt003

Cheers for the offer but no it's a very different airbox, so the bike uses a vacuum petcock so no fuel pump, and the reg rec is under the front of the tank, so there is a void from the battery to the carbs, this is where the airbox goes.

So it goes from the carbs down to the area above the starter motor, exits through a tube under the frame on the lhs of the engine and to a scoop on the lhs fairing... Yes that's right... Its a native ram-air system with a pressurised airbox!!

Hence why it runs massive main jets, 32 mm carbs (same as the 400), but is on 128 main jets as stock! (zxr400 is 95 main jets) :smt007

When we ran the ZXR400 race bikes with normal carbs ( i.e not flatslides) and ramair, we blocked off the air corrector tubes and ran with around 106 main jets. They run absolutely sweet as a dream when using this setup.

I think you should post a video with audio once she's running cleanly so we can all hear the magic! :excited

Have purchased a few more bits for the 250, am missing 7 metal brackets, few electrics and the fairings... And that's it, it will be a complete bike :excited

Wont stay like that though... Will be eyeing up what to keep, what to ditch, what to mod, what to make lighter, then save, strip down and restore it :excited

Looking great, very nice to see one of these coming back together. Ya Mrs will have a great time screaming it right through to the 20k (if I remember correctly) red line 😏 lol
