Ive been using the bike nearly everyday since owning it (about 2 months) and having some gear change issues at the mo, the troubles started 2 -3 days ago with it refusing to go in to neutral, it would sometimes but not all the time, so I had to bear the handcrap, and today it stopped engaging 2nd (well getting stuck in 1st rather) it does shift sometimes but not all the time, then its not too bad from 2nd up to 3rd and up, need to constantly keep trying, and its not very smooth when it changes. Ive found out it doesnt want to go in to neutral when the engine is running, but it will if I turn the ignition off... weird...

I had a silly off few weeks back and changed the gear pedal assembly, could it be related to that, i checked the linkage it seems fine...? or is it clutchy problems? help please... Im in greater manchester if anyone wants to give a hand

mine did that 3 weeks after I got it. Then I bought a new engine. Kwaks are notorious for 2nd gear

well my engine's 9 years old but only done 4000miles so I aint changing my engine for that... theres gotta be another solution

Theres some bearings that allow you to get into neutral from first, i think they act on a centrifuge, so when the engine speed is low you can get into neutral, when engine speed is fast it allows you to change into second. They have been known to get stuck.

I take it your clutch is adjusted properly and isnt dragging even when its fully in?

one way to test that........ set off start slowly and keep your pressure on the underside of the peg as if your changing gear if its anythin to do with the clutch it will change on its own at a certain point so in other words change gear without using the clutch.

just check the adjusting rod and have a play first see if it makes any difference?

Just had another thought, you do have enough oil in it dont you? I used to find on my XJR400 that i new it was getting low on oil (cos it burned it ike f***) when the gear change got a bit notchy and horrible.

id start with checking the linkage (the rod from the gear select to the gear box) check that its not overly lose, or tight

exactly what I was gona ask now, but youve just replied, as I had to reconnect that to the new assembly and wondering have I got it wrong somehow. Is there a set length or a correct method of fixing it?

i've never really had to play with my ones but you should about about 1cm of play on the leaver eaither way any more and it'll be to lose thus not truning the selector enouth
