hi all, quick note. i am not selling my ZXR400 but the thing is im wondering A how much do i put the beast up for an B, do i get an MOT for it before i sell it?

are you sellling it or aren't you? definitely mot it you will get a lot more with an MOT.as for pricewise whats the spec on it?

everyone likes to see a new MOT even if its not worth that much really but it gives you a sort of idea that the bike is road worthy

People like me won't even consider a bike with short or no MOT.

But if it's got 12 months on I'll fight tooth and nail! The way I see it, if it's got through an MOT it's in good condition so I shouldn't have to spend anything on it for a long time.

Of course, it doesn't always work out that way, but it's the safest theory anyone can live buy when buying second hand...

I fell fool to that! When i bought my 7R the MOT was only 4/5 weeks old, got home, a few days later i noticed the fork seals were leaking, got a closer look and the insides of the fork leg hidden behind the mudguard were like the face of the moon, pitted all over! New set of forks later its sorted. Plus, one year later took it for a new MOT it didnt pass on the headlight because the bike is an import! So had to buy a new headlight

Its probably true that most bikes are ok with a new MOT, but i will never again think 'its got an MOT theres no need to check it'. But yes, go get one,you never know there might be a fool like me who wont check ya bike over!

Ahh zxr's and fork seals. The one thing i can be guaranteed not to last longer than a quarter of a year is one or more fork seals, currently both of mine are leaking heavily atm

It's not even as if the stanchion has any pits in it either, i'm thinking about trying to get a discount on forks seals for bulk buying.

Thats the 2nd time ive heard that over the last few weeks, to be honest i dont recall hearing over the years people saying thier seals are always going. Personally ive never had to change them and ive covered more or less 20K miles between 2 zxrs over the course of 4 years. There could be a number of reasons for them going, not just because they are badly made. Is it overtightened spindles can pop then fairly quickly?

first set i've had go, done about 8,000 miles on this bike now so im not overly bothered. Trying to decided on weather i want to a change and go for a diffrent bike or to rebuild the suspention with new springs and a new rear shock...oh decisions!

I had mine 3+ years and did almost 50,000 miles and the fork seals were fine!

In fact, first time I've ever had new fork seals was my VFR last year!

i dont know why i put that lol. i am selling it. yea i think ill MOT it then its in good condition its a L3 (k reg) starts fine runs mint no clanking or funny sounds from the engine done about 26 or 27 thou miles forks are mint from what i can see. braided lines, acumen cat 1 alarm, (only thing i will say about that is that its worth hookin it up to an optimate cos after a week of inactivity it drains it abit). just had brand new BT020 back tire front tire is good for ages. only bad bits are some of the plastics aint in best lookin condition i think there was a spill at some point on it jenny cover scuffed a tad an scorp can slightly scuffed but iv done about 4k on it last year an its never let me down. oh i stuck a new clutch cable on too cos the old one went other than that lot its all good. chain an sprockets are also in good condition.
oh yea its a UK bike too.

plus i have an SP seat but ill probly flog that on its own.
