Hi there im just curious about the sprocket sizes on the ZXR. etc how many on the front sprocket and how many on the rear? and what would happen if you went 1 or 2 teeth up on both sprockets ETC ETC ETC.

I think the standard is 15/45.

To increase acceleration: - front / + rear
To increase top end: + front / - rear

I'm running 14/47 now and it really does rip through the gears very quickly. It might be a bit much for some though - it screams at 70mph. I'd certainly not go any higher. I have a 185kph limiter though, so never used 5th or 6th. Now I can at least use 5th!

You are correct that standard is 15/45.

Regarding 'screaming at 70'. 14/47 gearing gives you 8krpm at 70 rather than about 7k. It's not the end of the world.

so basically if i wanted to give my ZXR more top end. less teeth at the front and more at the rear?

no no no.

that will lower the top end considerably. to be honest, the zxr doesnt have the power to pull much more than 140mph even if you geared it for more.

And then, if we're all being honest, we don't need a higher top end anyway. I'd much rather have better acceleration than a high top end.
How often will you get to use 140+?
How often will you get to use acceleration to 70/80?

14/47 will run out of revs at 130. but it will actually pull hard up to that speed.

to be honest where i live in cornwall we have decent roads. some quite long straights. but to be honest if i gave my ZXR more top end i would have to find more power. the 444 big bore would be an option aswell as the ram air and kent cams?

Mmm. I've got to admit, the 444 kit is an intriguing one.
Who knows, maybe that's what I'll do with this other engine, if I can get Rich to pick it up.

i just changed the sprocket sizes on me z750, the standard was 15 front 43 rear(which i thought feckin odd)... the bike is so so so so so so so much nicer with a 14/45 pops a nice wheelie now without effort and is still pretty well behaved around town, will beat my zxr750 in a race to 60 and i dont even notice the top end drop since the bike was good for 150 previously but with a cut down fairing a bit more oomph is so much more entertaining everywhere.

dont normally get to 140 but 130+ on the average commute (all on private roads of course) have several very long and down hill roads

Hi,
I've just joined this group. I have a zxr750L and am interested in changing sprockets to give me more acceleration at the cost of top end. I saw an earlier post that implied this chap dropped 1 on the front and went up 2 on the rear. Can someone confirm this was for a zxr750, not the 400.

Would also like to hear about any other thoughts on the subject.
