OK - tried calling some of the ususal sources and have come up blank looking for stainless valves. I'm only after 8 exhaust valves but they appear to be getting tricky to get - anyone got any or any leads or suggestions??

RMKD are the guys to speak to. They are running them in thier race bike Rogers number is around somewhere.

REC are the only stainless valve supliers I know of.....but I've no contact details and google doesn't seem to have anything

I would suggest speaking to Andy or Keith at Dynotech on 01256 881711. If they don't supply them or know where to get them, then maybe noone does

I've recently had my engine refreshed by Bob Farnham and he suggested that stainless steel valves increased neither reliablity nor power so weren't worth the bother and expense. Of course others opinions and setups differ.

I'd guess the advantage comes from the fact that the stainless valves available are a better shape.

Yes, and they also don't stretch No need for constant clearance checks

They have flat tops so there is a small compression ratio increase ?

I was also steered away from them for the same reasons as londonyank. And told by another that they where stronger than standard, then someone showed me what was left of there engine after two of the rec's had snapped.....
with them being 300 quidish, i went with the keep the standards in advice!

All my engines have standard valves except for one and I only found that out last winter when I had it apart.

Only real valve problem i've ever had with ZXR is when I bent one.................bike was still running but the slight misfire turn out to be a bent valve.............no other damage was done.

I reckon any percieved valve problem that ZXRs are alledged to have stem ( no pun intended) from engines that have not been built properly................getting those collets in is very fiddely and needs patiance...........................


Given the extra cost of stainless....................I'd stick with standard

As has been said, it's really each to their own. I've had a stainless valve break, no idear why, and before your post Jake, had only heard of one other! Now, how many standard vavles have you heard of bending, breaking or dropping? I've certainly heard of far more than with stainless valves
