Engine Timing

Post by Guest »

Morning All,

can cam timing result in the engine not starting?

I still suspect I have a fuelling problem or just a very stubborn bike as it hasn't run for about 5 months, Turns over on the starter OK with no clunks or rattles and occasionally coughs and ticks over for all of about a second or so but then dies.

All ideas/ guesses gratefully received!

i would say but not 100% but if it was one tooth out you will punch a valve throw the piston ?

my tuner 01732 463658 lawerence monday to friday 9/5

our you could put a post on this website and you will get a answer within a hour

http://www.motoforum.net

hope this helps i would wait till i get a answer if i was you

have you checked if you have..

a spark / try some old plugs

fuel pump should be ticking if you drain a bit out

check carbs are opening

sounds silly check fuel coming out of tap

ic igniter trouble

wiring shorted or open

fuse blown

ignition or engine stop switch fawlty

have you stripped or played with the bike retrace your steps

some times the side stand wiring plays up

that should keep you busy

do you live nr brands hatch

Yep, you can definitly run an engine with one tooth out on the cam timing.
You can even race it, but will wonder why you are struggling to keep up with some of the others, but not all of them

Ok lads, thanks for the advice. I know the plugs are sparking, but will be checking the fuelling first and then working inwards from there. Just prey to god it's not the timing,

Going to have a stab at it between Xmas and new year so will keep you posted as to any developments/ explosions nearer the time.

Cheers..

Faulty Starter Motor Relay??

Post by Guest »

Good news! the bike runs!, replaced the fuel pump relay (many thanks si!) and after many many attempts it's up and running. HOWEVER, despite a new fully charged battery the starter motor will only just turn over, if you bypass the starter motor relay (or whack it with a hammer!! - no really it works..) then it turns over at the right speed. My guess is a faulty relay on the starter motor but has anybody else experienced this type of problem??

Oh and if anybody has a spare starter motor relay for an H model then i'd be very keen on taking it off your hands.

Cheers All
