Hi all i've been re-building a 91 sp. To do things in a logical order i started at the front and worked my way to the rear.I`ll just cnofsue myself if i did it all at once. lol
anyway it's now time for the rear shock to be given some TLC anybody got any advice on how to do it or who is best at doing it. Pictures are always helpfull. it's an original sp shock but has seen better days. I've done front suspension but never rear. is it any different special tools. How are filled etc etc.

if i`ve missed anything out please ask and i will try to do get the answers

Thanks for your time

TBH overhauling a shock or forks for that matter PROPERLY is a specialist job in MHO and not something I would ever consider

I'm guessing there is gas (nitrogen) in the shock do you have the facilities to refill it ?

Tell me when you did your forks did you check the shim stack ?

And you've been a member since 2009 and you choose today for a first post ? ? Where have you been ? LOL

He's been busy on the rebuild Cargo. As you said, suspension is a serious job. :smt003

Thanks for the concern guys or girls (just in case) unfortunately i like most other people on here don't have huge amounts of cash to splash so over the last couple of years i've been doing stuff myself slowly and with the watchful eye of two bike machanics. if i don't understand stuff i ask and if need be i wait. DO IT NICE OR DO IT TWICE.

I have an engineering back round. so any advice would be great.

Thanks for your time.

A good Moto-X shop will overhaul your shock - new bushes, seals, oil and gas fairly cheaply as they are doing them all the time.

Trying to do it yourself and the time involved , sourcing nitrogen gas , setting the pressure etc against any saving if at all and the MX shop isn't worth it.

Overhauling fronks forks is cost effective though when no gas is involved and saving yourself 50 quid on labour is not to be sniffed at winks

Tuning the shocks or forks is a fine art and best left to specialists and big bucks.

MM!

Just replenished the oil in my ZRX forks - done them 3yrs ago and came out nice n clean. My GPz6 forks were a nightmare - Silver sludge came out, new internals fitted clean oil and they rocked like a bastid! The Silver gloop had been taking up the play ended up with a totally different set of forks after putting well over 100 quid into the old ones :smt013 Since then I overhaul forks every 2~3yrs depending on use.

Well it turns out that no one is interested in overhauling this shock as parts are hard to come by. (I knew this already) So does anyone know of anywhere that can supply me with an overhaul kit so i can send it of with the shock to be refreshed.

seriously anybody got any ideas.

I've tried Mxaotn and T-Kech.lol

My overhaul shop said they would take my OEM shock amd overhaul no worries :smt004 I got a couple - none leaking but I guess they are tired from years rather than use.

Thing is , to send overseas the gas now has to be released (nother shock - pretty big) and I have to get the post office to certify - fuggin FAA !

But a MX shop can soon re-gas it for you.

I also believe he can fit different springs too for your weight with gear - I had this discussion with him before.

He did say however that the ZX6 shock is a good choice as there is about 25Kg difference in dry weight so spring rate will most likely match for good static sag.

MM!

interesting Mori-man. could you get a price for me and pm me back. I can understand the compressed gas thing with the FAA. nobody wants a exploding ram flying around at 37k feet up. could you even ask him if he could just supply the overhaul kit.

Cheers.

Any shop that does shock work should be able to do it. I even had the rear shock on my ttr-125 serviced and re-sprung at a local shop.

yer i'm happy that any moto-x shop can refill them,it's like one of the main shops said if they get it and start refill and somthing goes wrong like a seal pops they have no way of repairing it. still open to any other suggestions.

Cheers
