ZXR 400 H1 Rubber Carbs

Post by Cadorna »

Hello,

My name is Fernando, I'm from Argentina. I've got this beautiful bike since Dec 2010.

This is my first time cleaning my ZXR 400 H1 carbs. looking around the air box, I see the rubber conducts a little damaged, maybe for a prior owner or simply worn (please, see the pics). My question is, May I change these for new ones ? Should I could continue using the sames ? Could I do some work on them cutting same parts or something to to improve a little? Replace them with new costs around 160 dollars through http://www.megazip.ru/, the only site that I found and sell them, and this is too much money for me right now ... Any advice please ?

Thanks in advance !

hey, welcome!
Those soft rubber bell mouth bits can, i think i recall, be moulded back into shape with hot water. don't take my word for it, but i saw it on here somewhere, have a good search, see what you find.

by the way, your bike is BEAUTIFUL! I've always though that's the best colour scheme!
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

Thank you very much for your fast reply and comments.
I'll try to re-molding again with hot water to see what happens. My concern is about someones that seems to be catted by a knife or a cutter and i don't know why ... What could be happen if the rubber doesn't fill perfectly the carb intake hole and some air filters through those notches ? It's really important that all air intake come from a perfect rubber ?

I do not know if I'm doing a good understanding ... Apologies for my english :smt010
