jap clocks u can fit rev booster onto, goes into back of tacho, uk clocks u need to change the cdi unit. U can swap clocks from one bike to another but if u want full power u wud need either rev booster (kmph) or sp cdi box (mph).
dunno about the carb restriction kits etc never had a bike with them in.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hi All

New to this forum - I am a Mechanical Engineer working as a Project Manager for Bentley Motors in Crewe - hello to all in the North West!

I bought a L3 "Itoham" Limited Edition ZXR400 (presumably an import) for my son recently, and we are busy restoring it. It has km/h speedos, no sign of a "black box", a Denso (Japan) CDI (P/N 131800-5920) and carb restrictors fitted. I have read all the posts that seem relevant, but still have some queries...............

Regarding the speedo / black box / CDI restrictors

1. How do you know which is a UK (unrestricted) CDI ? (part no / model ??) What denotes a Japan CDI?
2. Are there 2 "electronic" restrictions or one ? i.e there is the speed limit one, disabled by the speedo mod (as per the FAQ's) or the "black box" (which I assume is a workaround sending the CDI a constant signal and is equivalent to breaking off the tab inside the speedo). However, there seems to be some posts indicating a rpm limiter in the Japanese CDI limiting revs to 10k - is this true?
3. Where does one get a "black box" from ?
4. Where can one get a known UK CDI (E-Bay sales seem to be from bike breakers who do not seem to know which CDI is which....)

Cheers

Charles
