bridgestone bt090's, or dunlop alpha 10's..

i prefer the dunlops, but they dont last long (nor do the bridgestones ..)

thanks for the input,

i did consider those, but bridgestone allegedly don't do a 160/60 in the 090, and i've only found the a10 160/60 rear on dunlops site, but i've only looked in the usual places!

as long as i get 2000-3000 miles out of them, i'll be happy!

also, is a H rated tyre ok for ZXR400? never had to consider it before!

H rated are what you want on a 400 mate ..

both 090's and alpha 10's should be available in the right sizes unless there's a stock shortage again ..

small update, the clutch is fubared, seems it was bodged in the past, and now its gonna be fixed! clutch kit on the way!

apart from that, i've done about 700 miles on it now, proper getting used to her, got the forks about there (thanks again, jake, they are mint!), rear shock could do with binning, it don't have a lot of compression damping, so maybe a gixxer/zx-10/zx-6 shock to appear soon...

i'm loving the handling, really seems like me and this bike have hit it off, the way it steers and carries speed thru the turn really suit me, as my blade riding mate moaned about (if you are looking mate, pick a straighter road next time, you'll keep up then, hee hee!) it does seem you can really carry momentum and fly if you keep her above 10,000rpm and on the gas...

so, clutch to be done when it arrives, then start sorting the shock and some fresh rubber, then i'll start perusing trackday sites and get booked on...

I would look to fit Pirelli Super Corse Pro's then...About 90% of the race population use these 120/70 fronts again and loads of grip.
SC1 (soft) front and SC2 (medium) rear
Not a lot of tread pattern, but then you say you don't ride in the rain...and the gaps in the tread don't do the gripping anyway

i have considered the supercorsa's, but never having pirelli before it feels a bit of a step into the unknown, always liked bridgestone or dunlop, considering the new sportsmarts or alpha 10's, i'm running a 120/70 bt-014 front now, i'm liking the way the front feels, its as stable yet quick steering as can be, even with a touch more rear ride height (i don't mind a quick turner...) there's only gonna be one or two trackdays a year, and i ain't gonna be too giddy, so i won't need that extreme a tyre, having had a 120/60 shod CBR600F, and ran off the edge of the front i don't see why anyone still runs a 120/60... but hey, each to their own! i must dig the picture out of the bevelled edge of my old CBR600 120/60 front!

i just look at it this way... there's only one thing stopping me grinding the pegs on a warm dry corner.... me! not what tyres (within reason) are on, i first got my knee down a lot on an old CBR600 and contiforce tyres!!!

right clutch done, lol took some arguing with so called mail order specialists... won't be using M&P/busters again... but now have the much slagged off EBC clutch plates in, after an afternoon's soaking, and some new genuine springs (thanks cradley kawasaki/demon tweeks!!) and she's back to being lovely! feels fast and smooth, did an oil and filter change while i was pissing about, so thats about the 3rd change since the resurrection, lol!
been out this evening, 50miles, no snags, except for a furry front of bike due to midge corpses!!! so a good clean and polish tomorrow, ready for the weekend!

been a while, done about 700 miles since the last post, all is well, (except for clumsy bugger here breaking a terminal off the battery...) been starting to polish little bits of alloy up, plus she's had the best part of a bottle of autoglym on her over the past weeks, so she's starting to shine!

as for the ebc clutch, its been fine! it did slip a few times pinned in 4th/5th, but a bit more cable slack then the manual suggests cured this, not a problem now, i found a private road and she doesn't half pull round the top end, gets to reline in top no worries, ain't quite got the heart to put her on the limiter in top!

oh, and if the 400L i saw round bakewell one evening last week is watching, you ride lovely mate, shame you couldn't get past an old H model with a fattie on board!

ta, MM!

looks like she's off to the CMC dyno at chesterfield soon, she wot she's got!

spec is unknown engine (possibly standard/mild work), standard airbox with home brew filter, standard pipes with no link pipe baffle, akrapovic end can, jetting guesstimated to suit, (but plugs look about perfect!) and a touch of pikey ignition advance on sensor! any guesses to output? i'm hoping for 60BHP, but at least with an air/fuel table i will see if the fuelling is right...

going to make some jack up plates out of 10mm ally in the next week or so, pegs went down with a touch more preload and ride height and hero blobs removed! i don't want to jack it up any more, the handling is perfect at the moment and i don't want to ruin it with pissing about! going to give option of 15/30/45mm back, and 0/15/30mm raise, that should give a good range between comfort and track clearance!

it probably doesn't help ground clearance that i'm 6 foot tall and 14 1/2 stone with leathers on mind...

Always nice to see the A/F chart , got myself some Bito FCR's now - just need to empty the tank now and get them fitted up :smt002

Weekends meant to be just cloudy so we'll see how it goes.

I just might have a surprise for my engine build - should be doing the "How too " thread next month :smt003

well, i got bored this evening, and started on my jack up plates!

just need to tap the various holes, tidy up the edges and polish them up and we are sorted! might come up with a mk2, for a bit more clearance for the track...

total cost, £10 and a few hours of my time... saved on rearsets or non existant jack up plates!!!
