ZXRR Replica #3

Post by guitarcarrot »

After seeing Mistigri's and Leey's bike I decided I'd join the gp replica gang and paint my bike up too. This whole job cost me just over £120 including getting a compressor off ebay. I'm a student, I don't have the budget that the other have, but I'd like to think the end result isn't too bad anyhow!

I'm back off to Uni next week so the painting the wheels green and the frame and swingarm black is going to have to be next summers job!

ps. Please dont tell me to put some brake discs on it winks

Didnt know quite how it was going to turn out so I didnt make a thread before it was finished, but here it is...

If anyone can guess where the green paint came from I'll be very impressed!

Looks bloody gorgeous!! You did this at home? Would you mind spilling the beans on the exact equipment you bought?

Cheers! It turned out much better than expected seeing as I did all the spraying in the garden!

Compressor: Anything >2.5hp (more importantly >9cfm of air throughput @ 40psi)
Gun: I used an old Devilbiss JGA-502 for the base, which was great,
but I decided to invest in a new cheap gun as I figured "how bad can it be"
The answer... its incredible, for hobby use on a budget, I would not spend a penny more than this: http://tinyurl.com/ebay-spray-gun
gravity feed is awesome, the build quality is great, perfect spray pattern out of the box with base settings and 25psi to the gun and i didn't get a single run during the whole spray...

Lots and lots and lots of sanding (I spent 3 full days prepping before priming)
Primer: Halfords rattle cans - 4 cans in total
Base Paint: Custom mixed from halfords
Lacquer: 2 Litres of http://tinyurl.com/1K-Clearcoat
