Trying to remove the fork stanchions atm, I've removed the grub screw at the bottom of the fork but the thing won't budge.
This is what I removed:
Looks like there could still be something in there maybe a flat head screw? or should it undo now?

Re: Removing fork stanchions
They will have been shrink fitted at the factory, one side heated to expand the other is cooled to shrink, then slotted in place.
If your going to use heat then it will need to be lots of heat fast otherwise the heat will transfer and it wont shift.
Why you removing them?

Re: Removing fork stanchions
I want to get them anodised, might just have to see if they can do it with the bottoms on. I did try heating the bottom with a heat gun to no avail. I see Diesel managed it in his tutorial http://www.zxrworld.co.uk/zxr400/forks.html so didn't think it would be too hard Are they actually screwed in or just press fitted?

Re: Removing fork stanchions
What did you use to heat them? and what method did you use to unscrew them?
I tried puting an allen key throught the hole at the end, then a tube over the allen key to extend it, but it just bent the allen key lol

Blowtorch. you need to have equal pressure on the top of the stanchion i have a piece of hardened round bar which fits through the two holes . good luck .

Re: Removing fork stanchions
woohoo finally got one of them out , bought a blowtorch in the end. The other one needs an easy out on the grub screw to get it out.
Now i'm wondering how easy it will be to get them back in. So another barrage of questions: Did you re-locktite them? would normal thread lock be ok? did you have to heat the foot again to get it back in?
