Gonna do an oil and filter change on my bike this week at some point, so what oil should i use? Like what viscosity? My bikes done 19k miles. And is it worth using a K&N oil filter (seen um for a tenner) or will a cheaper one be just as good?
You'll need 10w40 for the engine. Personally I go for castrol gps for mone, others people will vary. As for oil filter if u can get a branded one cheap, go for it.
Nice one mate, i went for the castrol gps stuff, got it from halfords and just picked up a filter from there aswel coz i wanted to get it done today. I picked up some redex aswel, do you only need a small amount for a full tank of petrol? It says on the bottle, half a bottle (125ml i think) to 50litres of petrol. So i worked it out to be about 40ml redex to 16litres petrol for the zxr. does that sound about right?
Thats spot on by my calculations. They do little 50ml 'shots' of redex and i usually stick that in a full tank of fuel and run that through completely before filling up again. It wont do any harm if you put too much in it'll just smoke a bit, so dont worry about putting too much in.
mineral oil? Isnt that what they use to run engines in?
the castrol GPS i use is semi, your hear of clutch slip when you use fully synth but i dont think theres the problems now that you used to get. Ive, heard of people getting clutch slip if they change the oil from synth to semi but thats apparently down to the oils mixing with whats left in the clutch plates..
Well its the first time i've done an oil change on a bike and i used the Castrol gps that rob has mentioned which is a semi.
I was comparing the botttles in halfords and the fully synthetic Castrol 10w40 said it was for racing, and the semi-synth Castrol 10w40 said it was for normal road use, etc.
Hi, just reading above and what is that redex stuff in the petrol for, as ive seen it about, and due to my zxr sitting for 3 years, and getting on road within thext 10 days would it be good to run some through it?
