oil is thinner and runs out better when warm, id remove the oil as a matter of course for any internal engine work then put some fresh in for a couple of hundred miles then drain and replace it again, if ive left the old oil in and drain it after the job i wouldn't know if any bits in it were pre or post the work i did, start with fresh oil that's drained a short interval after the job has been done and anything in it is likely to be from me poking around, saying you'd comment wasn't a dig but more of a nod to the fact you know more about working on these than i do

Warming it up helps to loosen bolts and nuts,if headgasket gone oil will have to be changed so its better to drop it while warm surely.

Hi, i need to change my head gasket too, i have a question....will i need to buy new head bolts and washers or can you use the old ones?

There was a thread on this not that long ago. Iirc the manual states they need replacing but i think alot of people dont bother.
