Just remember to put it back to the "on" position after you have to switch to "reserve", else you really will be screwed!!!
I pretty much have a feel for when i'm getting low on fuel now
, which is a bit spooky, but you can always reset your trip counter at every refueling and you'll get some idea of when it needs switching to reserve.
