how is the cdi reading speed?

so this means I'm going to have to swop the bloody rotors over from my L to H engine to use the L cdi.bugger

they dont read speed, the sensor in the back of an IMPORT ZXR clocks detects when the speedo reaches 180kmh, this send a signel to the CDI and stops the bike reving any faster so you dont exceed 180kmh.

ah right, well i've just pulled both the rotors and sorry but they are identical in every way. one from a H2 one from an L4, the l4 is the one on the left

Why would they be different? The engines are the same.

He's saying they are different, I had to check as I felt they would be the same.

By the way where is the need for a TPS?

the TPS is for the flatslide carbs. No idea why i know nothing about them, i just know thats the only time you would need one on a ZXR. And thats only if your rich enough to get them!

I see your point now. Who knows, i thought the engines were identicle, cant see why they would be different in any way. Unless what you thought was a H model motor is actually an L model, or the H model bike you have has an L model motor.

Answer could probably be found in the workshop manuals, the L supplement is just an addition to the H model manual.

My bikes an L4, pretty sure the original engine was an L engine, things I noticed that were different;

carb boots - had two little flaps to keep the jubilee clip at the top on my original enigne, this replacement engine has only one set of flappy things

stator wires - these all black, original engine where black and red striped I think

the thermostat housing on the replacement engine looked to the left, my original looked right.

Thats really all I can think of.

Cant get my head round the need for a TPS, I'm going to have to find out or I'll lose sleep over it. What would the cdi do with that info lol, it doesn't need to know where the hell the slides are because its not metering delivery of fuel. it knows how much advance to run because its reading revs and is mapped. Strange.

also the new engine doesn't have a nipple for the carb coolant circuit, guess the H didn't use that?

i stand corrected on the different/same rotors between H''s and L's .. :smt003 maybe it was just the H1 that was different .. either way, L and H boxes arent interchangeable.. which is a shame as the cdi on my ZX4 (ZX400G) has a much higher rev limit (15k+) on it than either the import (14500rpm) or uk (14900rpm) boxes ..

but that means it ought to work in an H1 ..... :smt017

only certain spec L models came with the carb heating plumbing ..

the SP CDI, uses the TPS data to alter the ignition curve to improve tractability with the flatslides ..
