I've always thought it was just a Kawasaki thing. Every one I've owned has been a slow starter when warm. Living in the frozen north means they've all had carb heaters fitted

'94 SP.
Standard airbox, no filter
Denso Iridium plugs
Beet Co Japan full system
Needle circlip adjusted to 3rd notch from end of main jet needle
No idea about milage - it's a race bike
No cooling fan fitted
Will start from cold no probs. However, when it's hot it is as if the battery is dead - the starter barely turns the engine over. Sometimes all I'll hear is a relay clicking when I thumb the starter button. It will bump start on the 2nd or 3rd attempt though so I'm thinking it's an electrical gremlin in the works somewhere. If I leave it to cool down after a session on track though it will start no probs. Weird......

Sounds a bit like your battery is on its way out to me, cos the relay usually only clicks like that when the battery is going flat, could be its being charged incorrectly causing it to get hot.

Just a thought here, zimm was saying in another thread about different cams etc being in the engines, could this be a related issue?.

Can i just try n put my view on this, my mate jon who owns his own bike shop n has previously owned and ridden lots of zxr 400s, i had this problem myself a while ago. He told me its somethin to do with the engine thermo playin up. Then 3 months later my head blew cos my engine thermo had died (common fault apparntly). Dont wanna say this is definately the cause behind everybodys problems but i wud get the thermo checked out just incase.
