Scrutineers are just people, so you're bound to get variation in what is allowed and what is not. Every racer will have a story about a part of their bike which passed fine for many races, just for them to be pulled up on it out of nowhere.

I suspect with numbers, most scroots will take a pragmatic view. As long as the front one is more or less correct (i.e., white on blue for us, and about the right size), and they think the marshalls will be able to see the side ones to identify you when you're leant over, then you'll be ok.

AgentOrange, I wouldn't get too hung up about it. Just get the front one right and then put some white numbers either on your seat unit or your side fairings. If the scroots want them somewhere else, just move them. You'll find bulk packages of numbers on ebay for a fiver or so, so cost shouldn't come into it.
