if it's the pickup then the engine wouldnt run right as the ignitor box uses the same pickup
cheers

I did wonder that earlier funily enough. Hopefully its just the tacho mate, shame there isnt any tests in the manual you can do on the tacho itself to eliminate it.

Check that your black cable going to your clocks is sending a signal.. Put a test light in it when the engine is running, it should flash faintly a few times and then the engine may cut out..
The brown one should be an ignition supply that doesnt pulse with the engine and the black/yellow is the earth.
The black cable pulses because it's connected strait to the coil which serves pistons 2&3.

Ok this is weird, the rev counter is working?!?!?!?! Just got back from a lil ride and it's working! The only thing I've done today is fitted my K&N, throttle cables (which I must say fixed my sticky throttle by far!) sprayed some block connectors under the airbox and seat, and inspected the pickup. :smt017

Odd that, I'm hoping that's fixed it for good now as the bike feels like a 400 not a 125!

I'd just like to thank everyone on here that has given me advice as I was posting my troubles on BCF and got f*** all replies.

So a big thumbs up to you guys.

All that's left to do now is take her to a Dyno and get tuned.

Thanks!

Like a 125? Was the bike running badly? Maybe it was the pickup coil?

Now what i would do is fiddle with everything that you moved today with the bike running, and when the rev counter goes funny again you have found your problem! :smt003

Yeah I was wobbling some cables today and nothing happened. I just took the bike out for another run and the rev counter has gone again :smt010

I think I'll have another go tomorrow and do what carsounds_dan mention, that's if I get the time (I work nights and sleep during the day) so I think I'll strip the rev counter down and see what happens. If that doesn't fix it then I don't know what will.

well the looms under the airbox include looms for the coils, which may be part of the problem with your rev counter as according to the wiring diagram your rev counter is linked to one of your coils. Also according to the wiring diagram the pickup coil is connected to nothing other than the ignitor box.

Aha, thanks. Would it be the 2&3 coil or the 1&4 coil? Only I dunno If I mentioned this but I took the 2 cables that connect to the 1&4 coil off and the rev counter didn't twitch everytime I turn the ignition on. Soon as I connect it back up, the rev counter twitches and I'm back to square 1 again. I thought to myself, ok it might be the coil buggered, so I tried a spare coil I got and it still does the same. I also tried my old CDI and it's still the same.

Guess I'll just have to wait for the rev counter by rover220 and see what happens.

rover220, if the counter works, I'll send it straight back and buy myself a new 1 from somewere :)

it'll be the one with the black wire going to it which if memory serves me right serves pistons 1&4.

Looking at the diagram, it surely does. another thing, does it really matter which way the cables connect to the coils? only they work both ways.

Thanks

FIXED!!!!

I was down the garage this morning after work and took the screen off to get to the back of the clocks, took all cables off and sprayed with electrical cleaner, guess what, still didn't work. So I decided to redo all the cables under the seat and change the battery again over to the new 1 I bought a while back. Still nothing. By this time I was ready to kick the toad out of the bike, so I got so pissed off I lended up picking up my Suzuki Special Tool (Big Hammer) and hitting the hell out of the rev counter. Hey presto!!!!!! hahahaha it works. It will probably naff up again, if it does, I'll go and buy a new 1.

So now the bike is running like it should and sounds alot better, ticks over better, revs better etc...

biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

Note to self, if nothing works the way you want it to, spank the hell out of it with a Suzuki Special Tool!
