ok this isn't for a zxr i'll say that from the beginning. im rebuilding the bottom end of a cr250 for a mate, hes willing to pay for it to be right (makes a change from what i usually get told!) anyway, my question is that all the bearings in the crankcases need replaced and thats going to come to £160!!!!!! WTF?! just sat here and worked it out, so, do i need to get these oem bearings or can i get the old ones out and take them to my local bearing shop, get them to measure them and use those ones? is there any reason why that isnt an option? thanks, ross

I would say that the ones made up by a bearing shop would be just as good as oem. If this is shell bearings your on about just make sure that the oil clearance is all good with the ones you make and im sure youl have no problems!

Not shell bearings as its a two stroke, only ball bearings, some needle roller bearings and this

What is this called? As in what type of bearing is it?

that little number there on the side will tell any bearing shop exactly what spec the bearing is and if it is available.......................sometimes you'll find that there are "giraffe" size bearings in bikes and you will have NO choice but to buy OE
