Fully synthetic oil can cause a slipping clutch, but now that it's slipping the plates will be inpregnated with it and be wearing so no point in just changing oil. Clutch plates are about £40 so I would change them and use a semi synthetic oil. BTW, they are very easy and quick to change

My plates have been slipping for aaaaaaages - i'm gonna do it myself as soon as i've payed my insurance!!!

Does seem like a pretty easy job.

So it's about £40 to do it yourself - or £150+ to get a garage to do it for you......

Don't bother getting new plates until you try the following. Dismantle clutch (really easy to do) and wash them in some form of degreaser. I found isopropyl alcohol does a really good job. Soak them in semi synth oil and reassemble with fresh semi synth in the bike.

Mine's slipping cause some crazy bugger got it bored out then went off racing his mates on a ZX6-R and a Bandit 1200!!!

What's with all this cork, kevlar, cork/metal type stuff in relation to the plates???

I'm assuming the plain cork is for grannies riding CG125's, and the kevlar is more for race use?

Agreed, IF you know that there's fully synthetic in there. For the sake of £40, why bother to go to all the hassle (and expense of buying degreaser) and then maybe having to take it all apart again if it doesn't work If you're skint, fair enough

BTW, always use genuine Kawasaki plates, not aftermarket ones. Apart from being cheaper they are the best, as used by most racers in the UK.

I would change oil (silkolene 10w 40 ride)ive used it for 3 years
I would change the plates and the steels and springs ring bartons ask for discount should cost including gasket about £80

I would change all these on the list because if it slips again at those kind of revs you can kiss youre engine good bye been there slipping clutch valve straight through piston

Soak the plates and steels in oil for a couple of hours or longer and no more slipping clutch for the extra £20 replace the whole clutch

Hope this helps if youre near cadwell or pembrey when Bemsee are racing pop along i will allways do the clutch free of charge only takes 10 minutes

They only sell a semi syn in the ride version its when you buy the expensive oil like race when you need to look at the label

Ive always used Castrol GPS 10W40. Its red too which looks kinda cool in the window, guess you could say it looks liek blood

Long as you got enough and the container hasnt been left open go for it!
