Hey all
Can anyone out there recommend any sites where I will find everything I need to know about spray painting... I want to re-spray all of the mis-matched panels I have now brought since I got taken out by car
The things I already have:
Garage
Lighting
Heaters
Compressor (not sure the output)
I want to do a really good job and I'm quite meticulous, and getting hold of DIY supplies is easy... so just need the know how...
Hope some one can help
Thanks
Lee

well i'm spraying all the time at work so if you need any info email me, but spraying gearboxes and not caring what the finish is like is a bit different to spraying bike panels that you want to look the best.

Ok, something you would know...
Paint types to use, I want to use two pack paint, and not cellulose, what would you recommend? Plus, mixing paints, colour to laquer/hardener stuff...
I know how to prep, not sure on paint mixtures... also about adding metal flake..
Thanks
Lee

I dont really fancy spray painting:
Tank
Air Intake Cover
Mudguard
Left Fairing Lower
Right Fairing Lower
Left Tail Fairing
Right Tail Fairing
Front Fairing
All with cans of Halfords spray paint...

Thanks anyway for the suggestion..
I live down in deepest darkest Cornwall... about 5 miles from Lands End..

I take pride in my first and only bike she looks very good for her age
i have quite a few sponsors so it has to look it's best out on track plus it is easy to fit a good fairing in a rush
the key to painting is make sure you give it a few coats of primer and then rub it down then a base coat stand back if it looks good then finish it of if not rub it again use a very fine wet and dry sand paper
There is a few pictures of the old girl on my website in the gallery
All good fun now it's time to win

like peeps have said its trial and error, the gearboxes i spray have to come out matt black and believe me when your mixing 2 pack paint you can get matt to turn out gloss if you don't mix it right, best thing to do is make a few mixes and try it out on an old fairing if you can get hold of one and note down how much paint, thinners and hardener you use each time til you get the finish right, but don't forget it don't matter how well you can mix the paint and the spray the final coat if you aint got the prep done right first your wasting your time, take extra time on the prep and you'll get a great finish!
by the way, i use a paint called epilife matt epoxy with the matching hardener and thinners, you have to get the hardener to match the paint cos you can get different hardeners, matt, gloss etc.

I might be talking out of my butt, but thats nothing new. Isn't two pack dangerous for domestic use? also, i thought two pack was too brittle for bike fairings
cellulose has abit more give, hence being used on bike fairings that flex.
might be completely wrong, but thought i'd bring it up all the same. i'd also be interested in a site/guide with all the steps as i also have a garage, heaters, compressors and two bikes in need of a respray!
