Passed my DAS a couple of weeks ago and am off to look at a ZXR400 tonight. Just wondered if you guys could give me any pointers as to things i should be looking out for. And any ideas on a good price for a 91 with years tax, MOT, 17k miles, immaculate condition? Lastly, whats an SP? Talking about some kind of ltd celebratory edition bike painted in a light blue??

hi vic welcome to my world, check out the buyers guide it will tell all you need to know!
i sold my zxr400 L1 1990 about 4-5 years ago for £1800 but nowadays expect to pay around £1000 up for a mint one.
SP is sports production, has flatslide carbs and single seat unit, different gearing from std, don't let him fool you, and good luck with the buy, check out the frame numbers and the log book should say SP.

limited edition???? mmmmmmmmmm 17,000 miles means the head gasket change is due! £1650 for an L1 in that good condition? maybe £1450 i think? i think you will get a newer bike for that money if you shop around.

I would never have paid £1650 for it, lol BUT i do love it, its the best looking ZXR i've seen and i love the colour. Never seen one in that colour before.
I was hoping you guys might be able to tell me why it was a special, lol, coz i'm not convinced!!
Been shopping around for a while and not come across one i liked yet, this is the 1st!

Well i didn't get it!!
Bike was very nearly in brand new condition, mate looked over it, took it out, great bike, would need a rear tyre and back brake pads in a few months, said is he didn't own a GSXR1100. Were about to leave him with the offer of £1300 THEN get a phone call from my blokey asking where the bloke lives. So i tell him and he advises me not to buy it. He'd had a call from a friend of his who had bought cars off this bloke (2 of which had later been found out to be cut and shuts!!)
So i used my head and told myself to wait
I'll just have to keep looking
