Re: Stick Coil Mod - a how too , I hope !
Best mod ive seen so far,
I had a weak yellow spark before i did this mod, and a non running bike (been stood a year)
after a full fluid change and cleaning the carbs i still couldn't get it started.
I modded the coils and now have a lightning blue spark and a running bike.
must have given it the kick up the ass it needed.

i am doing this stick coil mod on a race bike with total loss ,is it going to starve the battery of power more than the old coils ?.

Good question..........................I suspect given that the mod seems to improve starting and running and that it improves the hot starting problems then yes there will be a slightly increased drain on the battery however with a good fully charged battery I don't see it as a problem.
A good fully charged battery will last 150 miles plus................so for most racing applications there should be no problem

Did this mod last night using ZX6RR K1H stick coils, so easy to do and its sorted out my starting problems and got rid of a horrible flat spot I had between 5-6k rpm. The bike runs like a dream now

Now done my ZRX400 using Hayabusa coils with a CBR600 loom, about an hour from start to finish on Saturday morning
For some reason more noticeable a change on this bike than the ZXR

Nothing worse than having an H and not being able to scratch it !

Brought some CBR600RR Coils and loom from an 03 model to replace mine with as it's a bit of a ballache to start when warm.
Pics and info to come

Ok inital testing isn't so good.
Idle is steady for a minute or two then it starts to stutter and it dies.
No idea if i've disturbed something, have some dodgy wiring or what but it'll need sorting at the weekend
On the +Ve side it fired up first time after re-wiring.

also, talking to a chap about this mod, and he recons you would need to advance the timing on the pickup?

each engine's individual to a degree anyway.. its not hard to slot the pickup, or fit programmable ignition.

Re: Stick Coil Mod - a how too , I hope !
I'd like to have a go at this- my H1 is a fucker to start either cold or hot! And it's got the 6000rpm flat spot and a toad idle.
Is there a complete idiots guide to doing this anywhere? Im not exactly a mechanic but id love to learn!
Do you have to know your stuff to have a go succesfully? I can do a basic service......
Also, anyone know of any up to date deals on the required parts?

I have a set of CBR coils on ebay at the moment. Intended to do this mod but the bike got sold before I had the chance. Going for £30 but make me an offer as they are useless to me...

Re: Stick Coil Mod - a how too , I hope !
I have just done this mod, easy to do and has transformed my racebike from a lumpy at tick-over (2.5 thou revs) and flatspot at 6 thou, to a very much faster reving all the way to and through the redline, used to slow the revs at about 12.5 thou , now revs cleanly....................do this mod IT WORKS.

Do you have to replace the wiring loom or can you just whip the old HT's out and stick the new sticks in?
I'm skint
Also, what ones work best? Honda? Kwak?
Any recommended parts?
I only ask cos i looked on ebay and there seems to be loads of different ones (and currently none of the the ones listed at the start of this thread). Im guessing anything that fits is ok?
London Yank- did you sell them? The listing had ended when i looked.
