carburetta problems

Post by bleddynzxr400 »

hi guys i need to pick your brains about my bikes problem. before i changed the original engine it was not running tidy it was over heating and was struggling to pull off it would just stall.ive recently found out the thermostat on my original engine wasnt working. and the fact that it had no oil cooler could have been causing the over heating. now the pulling off problem. ive fitted the new engine and it fired up first time ticks over tidy but as soon as i try to rev it a bit higher it seems to die again same as the first engine but without overheating i was wondering if theres a problem with fueling or carbs need balencing. would a eletrical problem give any of these problems im a bit confused as to whats going on realy because ive changed the engine and solved one of two problems as it stands ive spent close £1100.00 and its still basically a non runner any advice would be helpful

thanks

Should be a wiring block round by the sprocket cover. Not sure if it will cause it to cut out revving it in neutral but its a start. Out of interest did you use the same carbs as on the old engine?

it looks like the sidestand switch has been bye passed and yes i am useing the original carbs i think they must be gummed up with old fuel as the bike has been standing for nearly 7 months would squirting carb cleaner in them help or should i strip and clean them

Ummmm, you can try squirting carb cleaner in but dont think it works lke that cos it will contaminate the fuel. Probably best to strip and clean them. Once you done that dont forget to run some redex through, thatll clean up nicely too :D

Yeah mix it in with the fuel. It says on the back how much to put in for every litre or so. Personally i fill the tank brim full and pop in one of the small bottles you can buy at halfords for 99p. I think they are 50ml, so roughly 50ml for a full tank i guess then. That should clean them out and give your entire fuel system a clean.
