I should have thought that the rear cylinders on a VFR 400 or 750 run much hotter than the front two.

I once did a job on an old CB450 DX Honda .............the oil cooler was leaking so I just removed it and it ran fine no problems.................the oil may well have been running at a slightly raised temperature but it didn't seemt o matter

got to rember as well that sports bikes are made for just that, hard thrashing for long periods on slow speed tracks in hot weather your going to need lost of cooling. Generaly the bike use alot of its cooling ablity but somtimes it will.
