Backfiring

Hi all,

While im riding whenever i go over a really steep bump or pothole, the bike sounds like it chokes itself of fuel and theres a gap in the revs. it also does this if i open up the throttle in a low gear to accelerate fast, no idea if theres something wrong with the carbs or what. Anyone have any pointers on where to look first?

Also if anyone has any of the following for a 89' H1 drop me a pm plz

hi mate, sounds like a loose connection somewhere to me, just go through all the connections and see if it helps, also my h1 had a l model speedo fitted when i got it, seemed accurate but unsure if you will need the l model speedo drive, unfortunatly i dont have any of the bits you need from when i stripped my h1,
got a k3 gsxr600 rear shock which can be modified easy enough and is a good upgrade for youre bike, there are plenty of threads on the forum about it

hmm, i'm going to have a look today, give it a general clean up. I also had a 33 BHP restrictor kit in it to start with, and i know theres restrictors on the carbs which ive taken out, where else are there any cause im sure theres another somewhere thats causing the bike to be abit sluggish?

Could be the carb floats?

Also check the connection with the 30A fuse that's coming off the + terminal of the battery on the Starter solenoid. I had lots of problems with that connection after it loosened and started blackening the fuses...

ye i agree with jamz i would check your float heights and floats themselves and also the float valves as well, i had a similar problem with mine.

I need new carbs altogether to be honest lads, when u turn the carbs over (after removing them obv lol) and look at the bar that twists when u pull the throttle, theres 4 small springs wrapped round the bar after each carb (springs are only about the size of ur thumb nail). Well one of those springs is missing on mine, my carbs also have petty just sitting around the edges of them and my throttle sticks really badly. im not sure if the throttle mounting spring on the carbs it has collected so much gunk and grime that its just in need of a clean or what, but for the sake of messing around with it all i might aswell buy some newer better condition ones. Plus i have no idea to mess with the floats and put them back correctly, im a little sketchy when playing around with things like that.

gixxer shocks wont fit an H1 without attacking the swingarm with an angle grinder ..

its a long shot .. but .. just how manky is your air filter ?

sticky throttle is the cables.. nothing else .. make sure they are clean, lubricated, correctly routed and have sufficient freeplay.

as a comment on your "wanted" ad, .. you do know you cant re-use a head gasket .. dont you ?

I will replace the throttle cables anyway, one of them is fraying. And no i didnt know u could re-use a head gasket after its been installed, im a little new to the ins and outs of engines, general maintenance and everything exterior im ok with
