Puncture :(

Post by rickyt28 »

Been out for a couple of hours today and luckily I wasnt too far from home when the bike started to wobble and I had to pull over. My rear tyre was flat as a pancake, I was gutted!

With me only been riding 2 weeks now, i'm still prety unprepared for things like this lol.
Its bank holiday monday, I'm not with any road recovery companies, i was on my own, and i had no chain or disc lock to leave my bike while i sorted something out. My only option was to limp it home :(

I got my mate to come and find me and he followed me home in his car with his hazards on while i crawled along in front of him. All the paints come off my rim, the tyres shagged and i'm now without a bike until i can find 100quid+ for a new tyre. What a B@STARD!

What tyres do you suggest? Seen a Bridgestone Battlax on ebay for 112quid. I've got a pirelli on the front but dont think i can afford one for the back. What do you reckon? Oh, and my rim should be ok shouldnt it? I only crawled home slowly, and missed any potholes, bumps etc..

shocking The rim might not be OK - dpends how long you drove with it in contact with the tarmac. I have a good spare rim (one of many) and good bridgestone which you can have for £100 delivered if you need it

It probably took me 15 mins to get home, but only coz i was going slow. And the rim itslef never actually touched the tarmac. I'll bear that in mind though mate nice one. I think it will be alright so i'm just gonna buy a tyre.

Bendog66 where can i get one for 75? had a look and theyr about 90quid on a few sites. its a 160/60/17

Just looked on google maps, i did 6 miles with it flat... and it was f***ing difficult!

Just bought a Pirelli Diablo for 78quid. what pressure should you inflate the rear tyre to on a zxr400?

My mate told me that once ive got a new tyre on it i should ride up to rivington barn coz theres a guy who sets a bit of a stall up filling your tyres with foam or summat? whats that all about anyone know? I've heard of that tyre slime that temporary fixes your tyre if you get a puncture like. But not heard that about foam, unless he means tyre slime.

You shouldn't ride it flat at all :'(

I carry a can of Holts TyreWeld (motorcycle version) on the bikes, will blow the tyre back up as well as seal the leak.

The stuff your on about they fill the tyres with is quite ironic really, my old man just told me he'd brought some from a motorcycle show today (£25.00) though!

You remove the tyre valve core and fit the adaptor and put this stuff in the tyre then blow it back up.. it stays in there and seals any leaks you may get from punctures (take the nails out when they get in!)

I find online to be quite expensive on tyres.. my local tyre dealer is usually around £10.00 cheaper than online.

I have Continental Race Attak on my bike, there great.

i wouldn't use it on a motorbike. Fine on mountain bikes, but on a motorbike 9 times out of 10 you'll have to sign your life away before they do it (if you can even convince them to do it)
