Post by parby81 »

Any one used one of these and are they any good?

I have ones for if the head is off, but I don't fancy taking the head off and I need to put a spring back on.

Too big I think...............reckon it's for car size engines

Why not just pull the head off..................refresh the whole head lap valves in etc............sharpens the bike up no end

i know, i know, bike only has 9500 miles on it though so didn't really want to tamper yet. Was doing the shims as they were out on two and some of the others nearing there limits. Managed to compress a spring and dislodge the collets. Ho hum, guess it'll be head off then. Bummer

I'm sure I could think of a bodge that would work but you'd need an assistant and maybe need to make a tool yourself..............i'm thinking bit of pipe the right diameter with a slot or two cut in it and a mate to lean on it and compress the valve spring while you fit the collets via the slot cut in the bit of pipe ??????

a normal valve spring compressor end, brute strength, pliers and a small screwdriver plus a little bit of luck and i got the collets back in by myself!! :excited
back to the shims then!! oh and i need to redo all the timing as i had to remove the camshafts. Least getting the shims out is easier now smiler
