Re: Forum Funds
Sorry but I totally disagree with you.........................
I have seen more than a few websites try to set up annual payments for members and the whole ethos and joy of the website is ruined.
I would be absolutely against any such plan.................particulary if payment was a requirement for access to the forum
NO NO NO
I dont know how much it costs to run ZXR world but I do know that if ever it becomes more than is affordable for our glorious leader I'm sure he will tell us and a solution will be found.................but compulsory payments...................are a bad idea.
If folks just make a donation now and again when they can afford it then I'm sure all will be well.
Baz PM me.............just what are the running costs. Is it affordable based on current donations ?

Re: Forum Funds
oh, i'm not suggesting compulsory payments, nothing of the sort, let alone restricting forum access. One of the best things about this forum is the amount of regular visitors, wouldn't want to buggar that up.
I was only saying that i for one would rather give £1 a month than a big lump now and again. Maybe a little gold star from teacher would be nice
I agree with the point about the forum having helped alot of us save alot of money over the years (or months in my case!) so i suspect alot of us would happily volunteer to put some pennies in the pot to keep the forum up and running.

I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

Re: Forum Funds
this forum will never be a compulsory payment scheme, i have left many forums in the past after they introduced paying to use it, the donations and membership fees are all optional and a big help to paying to keep this forum running (currently £20 a month) so yes the donations of recent have paid for the next 12 months, this forum has been going for over 8 years now and its only the last 1-2 years donations have been coming in, even when i went bankrupt i kept it going so it'll be around as long as i am around.
If i do ever decide to jack it in (personal or financial reasons) it will be announced here in time for people to come up with a plan.
Once again THANKYOU to those that have donated and those that have paid to be a pink member

Re: Forum Funds
Yes Mori Man, nice bump... you've reminded me of my little promise, due 20th Nov though, so I've got a few weeks yet!
I'm half way there - I'm now working for Rolls-Royce Aerospace (no, we don't make cars. why make a 200k car with about 400bhp, when we could make jet engines for about $3.5m with 60,000bhp+?!)...
...but still training! I've dropped from £17k with nhs to £10.2k, but on the up side it will only go up, and it's a real career for life. My course is a fastrack to big things in the company!
So I'll see what I can dig up in time for christmas eh Baz?

Re: Forum Funds
Ever though of moving it to some cheaper hosting?
Any bandwidth figures for the website?
My friends IT business mainly deals with SME's and a small part of his service is internet / mobile and domain / website hosting.. i'm pretty sure he could supply you with a unix server and sufficient bandwidth for a lot less that 20gbp a month.

Re: Forum Funds
Hey Folks,
Sorry to muster up this old chestnut again but MOI does and has paid for this site from his pocket since - forever !
We are never asked to give, we are never asked to subscribe so lets show a little appreciation on what he is willing to sacrifice by giving back
I am always happy to make "how to do's " , I am always happy to tell you what I am up to
, I am always happy to answer almost any question
but I couldn't do this with out MOI support.
Personally I will always bung Baz a few quid when I can , I enjoy this site so for me it makes perfect sense to do so
I'm not asking you to clear your saving account but just the next time you know you have a few spare quids to think what better way that would serve you ?
Thanks again Baz for your year in year out dedication to this site - beers are on me next time in Blighty mate
PS: My PayPal is stoney broke the now
But next wee flurry you'll see something
MM!

Done. The Cradley Discount alone has been worth membership this year. And the help sections during my winter fettling enabled me to do work I might have had to have given to a dealer. Bargain

You can count on another donation from Aus tomorrow. Esp as our $ is wicked
against the £ at the mo. The site and forum have saved me heaps over the last 6 mths.
