I have a friendly MOT tester near me, who would happily pass any bike for a 4-pack of lynx lager. As long as it's not silly dangerous like no material on brakes, ahem. He's under investigation all the time though. Shame, cos he'll let you know if it is dangerous and most of the time will just fix it there n then to pass the MOT.

Proper old school mechanic..

as an mot tester the whole idea of an mot is stupid anyway! but as for the tick over it doess not matter if it jumps around as the bike is not emmission tested the only reason it is started is to test the noise of the bike but most just let them pass!

Is it just me, but if your idling revs are all over the place, whats to say while your braking that it wont try to accelerate you while your slowing down?

Doesn't matter for the MOT though!

Your speedo doesn't have to work either...

MOT's are a nice idea, but in practise they're just there to get more money out of you, rather than make sure a bike is safe and roadworthy.
Who needs tyres when you've got knees!!

I dunno Jamz, im sure there are some twats out there who would drive/ride just to get from A to B and not give a toss about weather its safe or not. And whatsmore, it adds to resale value if its got one.

For sure, I mean, fresh MOT on most biikes means it's got at least one new tyre (Always needs a new tyre to pass an MOT) and lights that work, and quite possibly new brake pads or even rebuilt calipers, depending on the age of bike. lol.

On the refusal certificate it says - throttle operating incorectly (6.2.1f) It's odd when its cold it's fine, reves go up and settle back down fine then as soon as it gets slightly warm it will only drop back down to 2.5k stick it in gear let the clutch out so it bites and they drop back down again it's not like it's dangerous at all.

As far as the wheel goes it says it has excessivley distorted bead rim and he thought it might have hit somthing with low tyre pressure. Anyone know if this is fixable?

I've got a wheel arriving tomorrow and fair play to ams-motorsport.co.uk I wanted a black one and he said that he had a black one then I spoke to him again and he said it wasn't perfect but he did have a perfcet green one, he painted it black for me for no extra!

The rim is do-able, i think you can get it sorted for about £80 or so. I did the same on my old ZXR and they pointed it out when it went in for a service, im sure it was roughly £80 to fix. Never did get it done as i sold the bike shortly after.
