this is exactly what I would like in a bike; 400 dimensions and v-twin torque curve. I've read that cagiva are considering exactly the ssame thing, a 500 single or 650 twin in a mito style frame (though the 650 info wasn't really read from an official website, so I wouldn't swallow that just yet).
keep us updated if you go ahead with it, I'd be keen to do something like that if I knew what was instore for me.

Re: twin cylinder engine in a ZXR400
I still reckon ZXR chassis plus VFR 750 or 800 motor. One day I'll have the time and money to try it.
In the garage:
Kawasaki ZXR400 L3 - shiny
Suzuki DR800 - bouncy
1978 Suzuki GS400 - PROJECT RETRO RACER!
Kawasaki GPz500S - for sale soon
Honda CG125 BR-J - in bits

Re: twin cylinder engine in a ZXR400
if a SV650 engine fit's into a KR-1S frame
, surely it will go in a ZXR400
haven't got much time last month's to work on the bike, but here it is : http://www.kr-1s.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=67
