Another man down !

Post by reds »

finally happened after nearly 2 years, i came off today :(

just back from hospital - looks like bikes a write off.

was coming into work, filtering past stationary traffic, when a car pulled out of the side road to the left of me (he couldnt see me coming as he was pulling out through the traffic)

luckily was only going about 10mph - could see he wasnt even looking in my direction, and hadnt seen me, so slamed the anchors on, and swereved to try and avoid him, started to loose the back end, but by that point i hit the bonnet / bumper and was going over it !

couple of people got out to check i was OK , really nice of them, the driver himself was more concerned about saying it wasnt his fault, and that he couldnt afford to be blamed for it, trying to get the people who had seen it to agree. im pretty sure that it is his fault, even the police said I had right of way. they breathalised and cleared both of us and have taken statements, but have said it is a knock for knock situation so they wont be prosecuting, just need to put it through the insurance companies now

they took me to hospital to get checked out, but got the all clear after having a few tests / scans, just very achey and a nicely swollen leg, where i hit the curb (thank god for armoured trousers - or id be missing a shin!)

just been to see the bike (luckily the people on the corner of the junction heard the crash, and took my bike onto their drive to save having it towed - turns out they know my mom from years back) from what i could see, theirs oil all ove rhte fairings, obviously all the panels are cracked / scratched, front radiator mounting is snapped, as is rear foot peg / brake lever section, the police woman who helped move it to the driveway said the steeing was shot too as it to two of them to get it their in the end !

so not a great start to the day really - and looks like the zxr is a write off :(

Good to see you're ok.

Ring these guys
http://www.bldgroup.co.uk/view/2/about

And you should probably get a free hire bike too.

They cost you nothing, give them a ring and they'll get you a spare bike in a few hours, and go through the whole insurance hassling process for you. The cost of the bike will come off the other guys' insurance, so don't worry about it.

This is why we have insurance, so when it happens, you should be back up and running in no time.
With these guys, you don't even pay out your insurance Excess unless it turns out it WAS your own fault. Which this isn't. No way. It's the driver of the car who stopped in the stationary traffic and decided to break the highway code by letting a car pull out into your path. And partly the driver of the car who pulled out and hit you, breaking the highway code by pulling out into traffic, causing you to have to adjust your speed / hit him.

Not your fault by any means, and don't let them tell you otherwise.

Write down everything that happened at the accident, all the details, you might forget them later. If you can take some pictures of where the accident took place and draw your self and the cars positions. Google Earth is your friend here. Insurance companies like it when you can provide pictures and details. Makes there job easier. If there description is a bit sketchy yours will be in favour..

Good luck with it all.

I'm with Wonderpupp - call BLD and they'll sort it out.

It should be a straightforward 100% non fault award to you, because it was the cars responsibility to check the was was clear before pulling out, and a filtering bike has right of way apart from on the approach to a junction.

Don't expect a quick settlement, though...

I would also keep an eye out for ZXRs of a similar age and condition in the bike trader, MCN Bikemart, etc. Print them out and keep clippings. When they offer you below the belt, for your pride and joy, you can use these to try to convince them your bike's "market value" matches that of the similar bikes.

Also, when it gets sent for repair, choose a Kawasaki dealership. A chap I know had a nightmare when the insurance sent his ER6 to a BMW place, even though they were approved repairers, they messed his bike up pretty bad.

(and the Kwak place may give you a nice discount on a shiny new ZX6R when you decide to go for a bigger bike)
