1700rpm tickover ????

1700rpm tickover ????

Just a query ,ive read time and time again that 1700rpm is the quoted tickover speed , is this right and if so does anyone run there bikes at 1700rpm ticking over ?? ,i set mine to about 1200rpm ,

If it runs ok like that then it shouldn't cause you any problems.

Mine ran higher, which helps starting but isn't so good if you're caught in heavy traffic! Some people set it much higher because it's less likely to lock the rear wheel up and make it chatter - but that's more for the track and don't think anyone will claim they find it useful on the road...

it does rattle the clutch abit but its ok ,thanks ,1700 just seems way to high for normal running

the manual says 1200rpm but personally i have mine about 1000rpm on my road bike as this seems fine for the bike and the revs drop off nicely.

thanks peeps , bloody thermostats done a bunk since ive got in , just went outside with a brew n a fag and there she is ,fan going for it ,been in 3hrs so aint overheating ,just unplugged it at the radiator for now ,also whilst thers people on ,im after a new set of tyres ,any ideas on a decent set ? intend to use them alot this summer so something that can take it ,not got a certain make in mind , and can i go bigger on the back ? will 170s fit in the h2 swinger ? recomended ? thanks

1700rpm seems a bit high for a zxr400, most bikes tick over about 1200rpm the only bike that tends to stand out is my mates gsxr750 which ticks over about 3000rpm std !
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.
