zxr 400 with fireblade engine who wants one?

owning one already a mate dropped round the other day, he makes replica f1 chassis from 50's through to 90's had a look at my frame said piece of piss!! to knock some more up with a few subtle mods to increase strength, now my question, is it worth me making a few more, yes you have a standard looking 400 with 120bhp, but for the same sort of money you can buy a blade, that handles as well goes as well and is only bout 10kg heavier,then you gotta sort 400's brakes and suspension out.
Now personally i like playing with the big boys and them thinking WTF a 400!!!! but is worth the effort when a r6 etc can be had for less than £1500
any thoughts anyone

As Daniel said , if I wanted a Blade or an R6 I would go out and buy one - I don't but sure as toad I want an a$$ kicking ZXR400(ish)

ya there are so many r6s ,gixers etc,i just wouldnt have one unless i got one for nothing practically,its all about uniqueness,their like butt holes ,evry one has one!
a 400 with a blade engine surley is one of a kind,build one ,if ya can sell that ,then build another.id say you will definenetly sell ,but just do one ata a time,it would be less stress!

My next bike is a 636 but you expect that kinda bike to do stupid speeds but a 400? Noone would beleive it. Just imagine the corner specially with 636 front shocks The satisfaction of completing it aswell i bet someone would pay good money to have that zxr there rare as it is

Errrr, they do that anyways ! Mine shows an indicated 145+ in 5th on the redline, allowing for 10% discrepency (which there isn't as they aren't allowed to make clocks that innacurate or they wont get certified) that is at least 130

My ZRX clocks showed 112.5 and my digital showed it as 108 , the best I've had it upto is 121mph I think - need to check the mem' might be at 125 now but still haven't had it flat out as every time I am on the motorway the wife is on the back.
Roads round here don't have long enough straits before you hit a junction or set of lights

New Year resolution : Spend a tenner on tolls (each) and see what both bikes do flat out

The ZXR being downdraft will produce a lot more power and top end than the more modern ZRX engine - I certainly get more bang for buck modding the ZXR

If I can get the 440 motor making over 80PS I would need to turbo or do a 600cc conversion on the ZRX to get anywhere near that But nothing wrong with a turbo or supercharger

i have a zxr with blade engine (not for sale) it's in trackday guise at the mo weight bout 180kg same as a standard zxr, blade engine is 20kg heavier but ive lost that much weight from elsewhere. so i buy another zxr say £800 + 500 for blade engine/carbs/ exhaust & electrics mate reckons he'll do frames for less than £100, then gsxr rear shock (cheapest upgrade) £40. gsxr/blade calipers £75 zx6rf rear wheel (you wanna run a 180 dont ya) £40 sort the front forks £20-300 depending on budget throw in labour to strip and build (well you want something for the effort)
So all in your looking at least £1500 for parts add another £500 for labour and sundries that always crop up, possibly recoup a bit on the 4 parts,
now im thinking whos gonna wanna pay 2 grand for one? i am gonna make another one just cause ive already got 80% of the parts i need and can! then i'll let the market decide what it's worth and if it's worth the effort

WHY DO YOU ALL UNDER VALUE YOUR BIKE ?

A 20yr old mint NSR250 will fetch 5K all day long

A nice 20 Yr old VFR/RVF400 will fetch 3.5K all day long

WHAT bike is still used to this day as a competitive track tool ?

NOW, if your a racer of course you want this bike to be worth 900 GBP cause that way your racing competitively for cheap dough every season - the guys chasing his butt is the guys on NSRs and VFR/RVFs buying at 4 times as much !

WAKE up and smell the coffee !

If you all collectively decide your bike is 2.5K GBP worth - well guess what, the racers move on or pay the dosh and , Oh! Joe Blogs realises that a street bike doesn't get any better than ZXR400 Best geometry & suspension of it's time and still mixes it up with the modern stuff !!!

Because of their "Track value " they will still fetch over 2,600 GBP here for good examples - who's on the wrong side of the fence !

I would pay 2K for a bladed zxr no worries - it's this constant " Oh the bikes are worth piss, yet their great track tools" mentality that doesn't !

So don't come on saying " What's my bike worth" cause guess what - " Yeah mate, 500 quid tops!" is going to be your answer. Instead come on and say what you want , let others drag that down - it's their view/opinion not a 11th commandment ! The more folks stick to their guns and dictate the real value then the more you will drive the price up.

Please all racers stick your hands up cause you bought a ZXR as it was a 1/4 the price of any other well recognised track bike and your happy to be at the back of the pack cause it's cheap racing

Im a kawasaki man, have been from day 1 & first bike ( 35yrs ago) BUT just cause you own/like something that doesn't make it worth more, the market dictates the price and mostly the deciding factors are exclusivity, is it any good & price , now good that the zxr is it never stood head and shoulders above the other competitors, and the single biggest let down is......... wait for it ..........it's popularity it's such a great little bike you could buy one for 13yrs with next to no change no other model my any manufacturer has enjoyed such longevity, now where reasonable intelligent here i hope so do your own market research an rgv 250 and a zxr400 both go on fleabay at the same time at £500 starting bid which one's gonna fetch the most eh!
so in no way do i want to devalue my bike or any more i might build BUT i am a realist and just cause i'd like £3k for one dont mean im gonna get it. we have to accept that people will ony pay what they want to pay and we all value things differently hence fizzy's changing hands for zx10r money.
ps am more than willing to sell zxr400 with blade engines for 5k a pop just pm me.

If I were a HONDA man i would pay 5K for my mint NSR or VFR or RVF

If I were a Yam Man I would pay my 4.5K for my mint RD350 YPVS

If i were a Suzuki man I would pay my 4K for a good RG500

BUT that is the point , I am a Kwak man but it seems my fellow kwak followers want to be ridding about on cheap toad

ITS not rocket science and indeed - log into any of these above forums and guess what - they are ALL playing their bikes UP in value not bloody down !

Your needing to watch FIII footage from 1989~1995 , you'll find the champion leader was a ZXR400J2 in 1990 and the only reason they didn't get it the next year was Honda stole the rider away hence the L conversion to adapt to new riders. They never got the championship again but were up there.

However - all the racers i supply parts too seem to be either top of their class or in the top three 20 yrs on - how you figure that then ?

Keep selling for 500 and you will keep getting buyers for 500 cause they know they are getting a steal !

Whilst i share your sentiments and ideas, unfortunately we ain't gonna convert the masses. now while the odd extremely well sorted with spares race bike may go for 2.5k here in the uk, the vast majority of bike sales are now taking place on ebay, i dont know the % but i bet it's easily the first place most people turn to for a price guide or to sell. And there's the rub if you wanna sell your bike cause your skint / broke it or just wanna upgrade you can only get what people are willing to pay and zxr just ain't worth the money of a blade (£1k-2k) r6 (£1.5k) gsxr 600-750 srad, you see my point there's so many good bikes out there for little money, we/you can't impose our views and worth on to somebody else i aint never gonna pay 5k for rgvsp mk3 cause i can have a zx6r for that

The exact same as any bike previously mentioned - they look at forums that dictate price. That's the internet NOT ebay !

Yip, never pay 5K for an NSR but here is the thing - what current bike has the NSR looks ? A firblade at 2K ? No, so if that is the look your after and the money you need to pay you will pay !

Exact same for the original Z1 - was something like 900 quid new (900cc sales tactic) and fetch 10k for absolute minters - same wibbly wobbly bike with no brakes made in the 70's - did I make that market ? NO, the owners did.

It's provado, make out your skint and need a quick sale - well guess what, that's what you get.

My ZXR will more than likely stay with me but if I do sell i can tell you now I will get over 2K GBP for it at a drop of a hat - been asked to sell it 3 times already

Only non-runners and high milers will come out of Japan now cheap then you've got to plough the extra to get it going again.

TZR250s sell around 2.5k , just sent two non runners at about 1.8k
