Winter bike work
Ok whats everyone doing over the winter months to your bike?
here's my list:
70cc scooter: replace 19mm racing carb with 17.5mm and get it fuelling right, replace pod filter with stock airbox.
zxr400 l3 track bike: setup the dynojet needles, adjust mains if necessary, sand down fuel tank/rear single seat unit/front wheel fender, remove alternator system and adjust wiring to suit, remove fuel pump relay and associated wiring, look for cheap lithium battery, lap in the valves and fit new head gasket (no need, all cylinders 150psi), source new 4-pot 600cc brakes and fit maybe along with new disks.
fzr 1000: drop oil now engine is starting to be run in, check compression (for my records), sort out lumpy idle, design a subframe for the R6 tail unit.
zxr400 l4 commuter: needs a major service, now at 47,000 miles and still going strong, needs the valves lapping and a new head gasket, needs compression checking before/after head work, needs the cooling system looking at, ill take a look at the water pump to make sure its not damaged, the radiator really needs looking at - gonna try to clean it but i think will involve removing a load of fins...although i cant make it worse than the solid mass that it currently is...i really need a replacement. im gonna take the headstock and suspension linkages and give everything a good degrease/re-grease, replacing damaged/worn bearings as necessary.
other things: i need to get a dummy tank and make a stand to hold it and my carb balancers to make it an easier job, a bit of aluminium rod and a bird stand-type base will be fine. overhaul air compressor if i have the time/money.

+1, this weekend or next im doing a proper clean of everything, living basic bits and spraying the crap out of it with acf-50, all the other stuff like headstock beatings have already been done, need to check rear brake pads, its now a commuter, come summer again it will get a full service to turn back into a toy, atm it's just to get me from A to B, but will probably be doing the rs125 as ive got the engine on the bench in my shedCaNsA wrote:Riding it like a man.

Re: Winter bike work
Fitting my Ohlins shock and, er, thats it, all else is good. Should rebuild my old AR80.
ZXR will go out until roads go white, then its AWD heated seat with a pinch of turbo, for flavour, time.
Oh and coffee for Cargo, he'll call to ask my advice about rear shock set up, guaranteed.

Does the low seat height reflect the low intelligence? Easier to get an asshole onto.

Not alot for me, not even riding at the moment. The Versys has now gone so just left with the ZXR under a cover in the garden. Might try and fire it up in the next couple of weeks, perhaps give the neighbours an early new year wake up call
Would like to get started on some engine work when the weather warms up a bit.

Re: Winter bike work
Braided hose to rear, can't decide on colour.
Bike has sat for two weeks, decided to take it out yesterday, first opportunity to see if it would start from cooooold, first time, instantly, so my winter work list remains small, bike was off the road for 6 weeks in the summer, that's how I roll, work on in it during the summer so I can ride it in the winter
Looking at heat and insulated shutter for garage, and better lighting for next winter.

Stuck between gold or limey green, as for being a little girl, even if I use 4 wheels I'll be keeping the moonroof open, I rode yeterday with my visor open quite abit and I didn't wear my thermal head gear, I did wear a frock though.CaNsA wrote:pink if you are putting your bike away for the winter like a little girl silver if you are a man.

Re: Winter bike work
The gold is to match my Ohlins gas type thingy, lime green was never really gonna happen, fronts are silver, so sleep safe in the knowledge the rear will be silver too. Lots of carbon stick on nonsense, lime green hoses, lime green double bubble and a burberry, what an image.

Re: Winter bike work
Its cold, its wet, your riding somewhere, coming up to a corner you know is dodgy but instead of using the front brakes hard before flicking it on its ear you use the back brake alot earlier, more controlled, if the back does kick out its not a big deal. Works for me at least
