Bloody hell did that in proper, at least you know the welding's good as it cracked the frame to the side of it!

The metal would crack to the side of the weld as the weld material is stronger than the original in most cases. cracks follow the line of least resistance. that one is right on the edge of the 'heat affected zone' which is always the weakest point, where the original material has been heated enough to change its mechanical properties.

how did you manage to bend that then?
