Do Your Wrists Ache?
Do Your Wrists Ache?
I've heard loads of times before of people complaining about how riding sportsbikes through town makes their wrists ache. I've never understood that.
But I've just read this thread on Visordown:
http://www.visordown.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362760
Here was my reply to her:
You know, I've always wondered at all these people who say the sportsbike riding position makes their wrists ache.
As I've always had sportsbikes, and have ridden a ZXR400 for up to 9 hours a day and NEVER had any wrist problems, I could never relate to it.
It's only reading this that it becomes obvious that these people are leaning on the bars - whereas I don't!
I think it's also worth noting that many people complaining of the wrist ache are motorcycle journalists... What does that tell you about them?
So to those of you who complain about wrist comfort - do you lean on the bars?

Re: Do Your Wrists Ache?
Have to say im paricularly guilty of that! I think cos i get lazy i just lean on the bars, its ok on the motorway tho because alot of your weight is taken by the wind on ya chest but then i tend to tense up and get a death grip on the bars. But i do notice sore wrists more about town with the stopping and starting thats what kills mine the most.
I try to make a conscious effort to not lean on the bars and keep myself upright using my stomach and back muscles, but my efforts always slip and end up doing it. I also slouch on my bike which gives me chronic back ache after an hour down the motorway, so i bought a kidney belt last year which helped loads as it was keeping my back int he correct posture.

Re: Do Your Wrists Ache?
there right, the only reason your wrists would hurt is if your leaning on your arms. Personaly cant ride like that insted i use my legs clapmed to the tank to hold me in place

Re: Do Your Wrists Ache?
ive never quite understood how people end up leaning on the bars either ..
on the other hand, my neck and back are utterly screwed.. and thats most likely down to riding sportsbikes day in day out for the last 10-12 years .. well, its what my osteopath blames it on anyway.

Re: Do Your Wrists Ache?
They did ache a little jumping from the RS50 to the ZXR, as the RS is a much more relaxed style.
But other than the first 1 or 2 rides i've never had a problem.

Re: Do Your Wrists Ache?
Yeah, I never had wrist aches, and as a lady-type, I was encouraged to "get yer beaver up to the tank as close as possible" by my DAS instructor to get best maneuverability at slow speeds.
Beaver to tank, is the best advice I ever got.

You know there's nothing sexual about this post, right? I mean, I just read it back and it looks like iot was taken from a carry on film...

It just made me think about Baz's bridge picture.
Come to think of it, I can have a proper look at that now I'm not at work...

Re: Do Your Wrists Ache?
don't have a problem, I do tend to do as robB says though and let it slide on the motorway, although I don't ache from it. I find its a bad thing not just from the ache but when you are on a motorway and merging onto another and have like a banked 90+ degree bend and hit a bit of road which has been dug up I end up almost throwing it down because my weight gives unwanted steering input.
