fair price?

Post by d00ner »

hi guys, tried searching but couldnt find anything on this. what would be a reasonable price for a zxr? i know thats very general, and will depend with mileage etc, but im on a really tight budget at the moment (less than a grand). is this enough to buy a non-lethal one? i dont want one that needs 300 hours of mechanical work, as im not too good at that, but cosmetic stuff isnt so important to me. i cant think of what else really.. as long as it runs and rides, im happy :smt001 so how much you guys think realisticly i can get away with?

p.s sorry for the essay, long day up the hospital, so probably mumbling senseless crap now.

is that £400 or £999 they are both less than a grand? you are going to struggle to get a decent L model for less than a grand, a H maybe but you get what you pay for.

If you can afford to take your time looking and waiting for the right one then I'm sure you could pick up a mechanically sound but cosmetically ratty one for less than a grand - particularly if you can wait till october/november.

There's four on autotrader at the moment for £1000. None of which look particularly sh0cking.
In the garage:
Kawasaki ZXR400 L3 - shiny
Suzuki DR800 - bouncy
1978 Suzuki GS400 - PROJECT RETRO RACER!
Kawasaki GPz500S - for sale soon
Honda CG125 BR-J - in bits

I paid £1200 inc delivery, for a 97 with 7000mls on it fairings and fork seals were knackered but it had a full micron system and ran pretty sweetly she's nice and tidy now and iv'e spent about £450 pounds and 30hrs real labour,as above they are around just go look at em first, buying cheap bikes unseen can be a dissapointment shop around if you have the time,i have seen some other 400's around in good nick for that kind of money.

yup buyers guide will help. just look out for the obvious. check the forks, start it from when its cold make sure the engine aint fluxuating to much with the revs check horn, lights, brake lights etc, see if they will let you test ride listen for overly loud rattles/ knocks. look at exhaust gasses to make sure it aint burning oil, and there is loads more if you wanted to get finiky about it but do bear in mind these bikes aint brand new lol

it would mean somethin is fked lol, it could be simple but me mate whos pretty handy with bikes at work told me to check that lot when i went to buy my bike its mainly anything that could be expensive to fix or hard to find but in regards too the revs maybe it could be a number of things ill ask him when he comes in.
