New Bike.

Post by Brett »

I'm gonna have to sell my 400. I will be upgrading to a newer one when I have the cash, but as my girlfriend has been sick for six months that's not gonna be in the very near future. I will need a different bike that I can use for work and the occasional trip to London, as a 400, although great fun has proved pretty impractical for this.
Any suggestions anyone can give me as to what bike would be helpful, although I still want something sportyish. It has to be under £1000, as much under as possible

I was thinking along the lines of,

CBR 600
FZR 1000 exup, or maybe Genisis
Or an old GPZ 900R

I have never ridden/owned any of the above so would appreciate advice from anyone who has.

I will be posting my bike for sale in the near future.

CBR600F is a very capable sports touror (pay the money for it though..) if your just crunching motorway miles anything will cope well. Older ZZR600's can be picked up for under 500 in working order.

If your going to be sitting at 80 odd and what stuiped cheap motoring a GPZ500, GS500, CB500, ER500 really wont see you wrong or out of pocket will see over 60mpg as well.

Whats it going to be used for? how fars the commute and what sort of roads will you be using?

you aint gonna get an old blade in decent nick for a grand, the cbr600 jelly mould would be the ideal option of those 3, nice and easy to ride, ideal commuter, personally out of those 3 i'd go for the gpz.But why no go for a zzr400 or zzr600? ride on tracks, nice uprightish position and a bit sporty.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

unfortunately a lot of shitty cheap blades hold their value because the streetfighter scene is booming and they are ideal candidates

i very much doubt u will get a half decent foxeye blade with t&t thats semi reliable for less than £1300

not in the summer anyway

Only problem with the FZR1000 and similar is they're really -ing old now, so you'll be paying out constantly for repairs!

CBR600 should do the job, but if you want a bike that will clock up huge mileage without you ever having to touch the engine, then there is no option but a VFR750. Gear-driven cams, you see! :smt002

Any of the 750's will do you proud from '86 through to the last models before the 800, and you're likely to find any for that money.

I've had one with 50,000 miles, one with 74,000 miles, and my last one was showing 110,000 miles and is still going strong in it's new owners hands!

Plus you can get your knee-down on them, and the '86 model finished on the podium in the Donnington Trans-Atlantic race against all the faactory teams, and it was literally a road bike with the mirrors taken off!

Insurance is just a tad over what a ZXR400 is.

Still thinking about the others you mentioned? :smt003

Saw a 97 blade in good condition t&t for £1395. It was all painted orange though, and made my girlfriend say "urgghh" when I suggested buying it. Not that it would matter as £1000 is my limit.
The commutering I do is not far at all, Grimsby/Cleethorpes is pretty small, but I want something that I will want to go for hacks on and will be pretty good fun to ride, that's why I thought about the FZR. You can get gooduns for around £900.
Riding positiong isn't that important, I used to ride from London to Grimsby every week on my urban tiger and my 929 blades with no serious back niggles.
