whats the hole with the plastic screw in the pick up coil cover (the cover for the bottom end of the timing chain) for? timing strobe?

It can only be for checking timing I would have thought, Although this would probably have to be none statically, I recon if you tried to use a strobe with the plug out you may get a facefull of oil. shocking

you can check with a strobe without getting covered .. my guess is this is why the aperture lines up with the opposite side of the rotor to that used when building the engine ..

still think its pointless though, its almost as quick to whip the cover itself off, and as there's no adjustment that can be made .. whats the point in checking it ?

maybe to identify a duff cdi .. but replacement cdi's are cheaper than tools and labour rates these days ..

yeah, just trying to sort out this whole fuelling thing with the bike. Now i know the timing was spot on when i put the engine back in, but that little seed of doubt is beginning to creep in.

Guess i'll just have to strip the carbs down and go from there. Last thing i want to do is take the engine out again!!!
