Re: Redexrob help
did u raise the idle to about 2-3k rpm?it shouldnt just cut out. did you take both the pipes off that block off where you put the balance guages if you have unplugged the two you arent balancing it will keep cutting out!!as its a massive air leak.you have to have the ones you arent balancing at the time blocked off.............this is why it is easier with 4 guage balancers
when balancing the carbs you have to be very gentle you only need to turn the screw an 1/8th of a turn maybe less then let it settle again for a minute and repeat till the same.go back and have another go tomorrow or something it gets easier when you have done it a couple of times, and your be suprised as to what difference it makes to the bikes running.
hope this helps

Re: Redexrob help
Yeah at first i was wondering why it wasn't starting then tried covering the two open ones and it started so i got the small tube that that was linking 2,3 and put this over the two that wasn't being balanced, started to balance 1,2 and got it somewhere near so changed over and started to do 3,4 and then started cutting out when doing these ones.i get this when i'm out on the bike that when it gets hot it won't start again until its cooled down a bit.i'll try again tomorrow.extonyg wrote:did u raise the idle to about 2-3k rpm?it shouldnt just cut out. did you take both the pipes off that block off where you put the balance guages if you have unplugged the two you arent balancing it will keep cutting out!!as its a massive air leak.you have to have the ones you arent balancing at the time blocked off.............this is why it is easier with 4 guage balancers

Thats why we are hereextonyg wrote:and there are plenty of people on here willing to give some advice to help you along the way.
Well done, doing things yourself is very satisfying, not just as an achievement but also when you havent had to fork out for someone to do it! Paying for parts only is a win all the way.

Re: Redexrob help
does what it says......you have 'balanced the carbs' which means they are all at the same level now .....you will just get smoother running and idle and maybe pickup better depending how far out they were.just means all 4 are all working at the same level

Re: Redexrob help
level meaning speed. Those screws adjust the butterfly's that the throttle opens and closes. Due to valve clearances changing and wear within the carbs, it causes each carb to run at a different speed making the bike run lumpy in tickover, increasing fuel consumption because all or some of the carbs are running at different speeds so are fighting again one another.
Hve you taken the bike for a spin yet? IT should be alot smoother on tickover and pickup better as extonyg said. Were they far out at all?

Re: Redexrob help
yea took bike out last night seems to be better they wasn't that far out to start with. One thing i noticed that when i did them first and messed up they were a bit out and loads of toad kept blowing out the exhaust like oil or petrol or something,it was wet and brown anyway but now i have them right it has stopped.
Also i noticed while fixing the gauges on that where the mechanic had put the restrictor washers there is fuel leaking out of them as if there not on tight enough, could this be an air leak, should i replace the rubbers.
Wish i still lived in telford,i might of been near one of you lads that knew what there on about to take a look.
