Ok so I insured my new 7r in order to test ride it, and i did the whole thing in a hurry and had to pay it monthly as i didn't have the money all there to pay it as a lump.
Basically i want to cancel it now (in the cooling off period) and start it again. However they are being pricks and won't let me cancel it. First putting me on hold for 10 minutes and then saying a i can't cancel it due to the data protection act, instead i must wait for papers to come through and write a letter!! Because obviously thats loads easier to verify my identity!!!
Am i right to be wound up by this bollox or are they being sincere, coz honestly they seem to develop quite an attitude when you try and cancel a policy.
And also am i right in thinking they cannot legally charge me if i choose to cancel in the cooling off period as this period is defined as
A length of time in which the two sides to a purchase agreement, or contract can think things over and cancel with no penalty. ...
Sorry to rant a little but i am annoyed with them as they just think they can do what they want - which it appears they can as we need them more than they need us!!!
You do have to send the insurance cert back to them and they should refund you asap. Which in Bennets case was 45 days after recieving my certificate
I had a similar thing with Bennets, they sent me a letter to say my renewal was up in a few weeks, so I phoned them and sad I would not be renewing with them and I am moving house ina couple of days, gave my new address for the confirmation. then the whole hoo haa of them wanting £55 for 4 days insurance at my new address, which I said I was leaving the bike parked there until the policy has expired, thanks. Twats.
Then I had £230 taken out my account by bennetts one day, which pissed me off, somewhat, as I had already spent £140 on insuring my ninja elsewhere. at my new address, along with a hefty deposit for my new gaff.
I phoned bennetts, they said return the documents for a full refund. I said I have moved house, where did you send the docs to? My old house. Great.
I never got the documents in the post. (Really not on talking terms with my Ex)
By the time I had written about 4 letters demanding my money back, and spent about £10 on phonecalls to them I got a refund less £80. For some reason they kept £80 of my money, and it's apparently their standard cost of admin fees to: 1) change my address
2) resend me a new certificate of insurance (for me to return) and
3) I had gone past the cool off period for a new policy and therefore had to pay the insurance for a few days.
What a load of shite. I now ignore anything bennetts have to offer with motorbike insurance as they seem to be in cohorts with Churchill. Just a bunch of w****ers.
I'm actually taking them to small claims court for the sum of £112.00 (plus court fees) via our works litigation advisor, on he basis it is illegal to have 2 insurance policies on any 1 vehicle therefore they could have made me criminal, and I had my mobile phone bill to show the cost of my calls, and Bennetts have mysteriously lost their recording of my phone conversation. It continues, but this was from November last year. They have offered me a £25 refund, but Nick said to keep going for the full whack to cover his fees too - ahem.
I'm like a terrier, If I've been wronged, I'll get my own form of justice.
Alas, they do not, but if their offices were anywhere near where I live, I would do more than their wing mirrors.
But that would probably put the premiums up, so it's just as well, really.
